I think it's a bit of an optical illusion. The neck tapers, so tapering the laminations makes the lines look more parallel even though they're really not.
My observation from over the years is that it looks better to have the center taper then to have the outer laminations get really skinny as they reach the nut. My preference is for the laminations to thin kind of proportionately. These two examples have tapered layers with thinner straight sections in between.

Okay, I worked it all out and have all my cuts planned. All the parts are puzzled into that one board and I just have to cut it right to free them all.
The taper is still up in the air (flying taper?) It will all depend on how much stress is still in this board, how much everything curls up after cut and how much I need to plane off to true it all up.
Loading it all up in the morning and taking it to work for resawing.

Man, this last piece reeeeally wanted off this board to do it's own thing.
It was the last inch or so, where the grain did almost a 90* shift in direction and had some cracking along the edge
The rest of it curled just a bit when I cut it free, but I cut it 1/4" heavy so I'd have room to plane it flat. Hopefully that's enough.
Now onto resawing.

Finally!!
Bass parts!
Some assembly required.
There's gonna be a lot of router planer mess going on tomorrow.
Middle stringer is 1/2" wide. If I taper it, it has to be 1/2 down to 1/4. I'll draw it up and see how it looks.

Aw snap. Story time.
So, that's my shop at work. It's not really a shop, it's an old art classroom in an annexed part of the building. The roof failed and did water damage to it and the room below. And it happened on a wed and school started the following Mon. So I had to go down the hall and turn a normal classroom into an art room with plumbing and storage cabinets (kitchen cabinets, counter, sink) in a few days. When it was all done, I asked if I could have the damaged room for a shop,....since they couldn't have kids back in there unless they paid a contractor to Reno and do mold remediation and pass inspection. Plus, it had it's own exit door to a rear stairwell that no one uses, directly to the rear of the building, where we all park, deliveries are made, etc. Perfect. I can bring supplies and materials in/out and never disturb anyone. Just like friggin Disney. They said no, they had plans for it. 2 yrs later, it was filled with junk. Then they decided I could have it, but it was their idea now and by their good grace. Oh, thank you masters. For about a decade before this room was damaged, I worked out of my own truck, with my own tools and any time I needed to cut wood or paint something, I was out in the back parking lot like a redneck. Yeah, the biggest school of it's kind in the state and that's how my dept operated/was treated. Anyway, after they gave me the room, I cleared out all the junk, built my own benches and hauled the band saw up to the 2nd floor from the basement on a 2 wheel dolly, I made them give me $1000 to stock it with some basic tools. Other than that, one of the benches is made from a huge oak veneer door on top of old TV carts. My desk and chair is scratch-n-dent stuff I dug out of storage. Etc, etc.
Yes, I'm fortunate that I have a nice big, well lit, climate controlled space to work in when I want. But, I had to kick, scream, claw and cry to get it and hobble it all together on my own. I guess the point of all that was that maybe it makes you feel a little better to know that it's not just good fortune. Also, I like to bitch.
At home, not much better. I had to clean out other people's junk to make a 12x12 space in the basement for a workspace. After the stepson moved out and left all his weights he bought when the gyms were closed, I had to clean out the garage to carry all his $#!t out to the garage and then I was able to bring my chop saw and wood stash down to the basement. So, I'm in pretty good shape now, but I had to bust my hump. I'm hoping I can turn out at least one nice bass before I keel over.
The end.
