We bassist are so under appreciated!

Then, after the band/crowd gets pissed, they can start playing again to shut em up and make em happy... Its a good ego boost, but may get them reprimanded by the more 'important' players in the band. ;)

I've done this (on accident ), and it always backfires. Gets you noticed, but not in a good way.

Personally I like being low-profile. I'd appreciate it when people acknowledge my function in the band, but I like it just as much when no one knows how important you are to the sound but you.

Watch Guy Pratt's introduction to bass, he puts it exactly the way I think it is.

THAT is why some people think bassist are third rate. stop playing the low note of the guitarists chord. stop being the guitarists special effect. listen to muse, chemical brothers, david bowie, i dont know, but realize the ffct a good independent bass player can have. after
besides, who doesnt know sting, paul mcartney, bootsy collins. you WILL be a boring bass player if you plY boring.

haha and i just lost a gig cause i tried to play interesting, the band wanted a boring bassist anyway :spit:

Today, I got 5 or 6 really solid rounds of applause for my upright bass solos today in this trad New Orleans style jazz band I've been doing side gigs with. Screw this unappreciated crap!

i think duff is great. i love his tone on appetite for destruction. its one of my favorite pick tones. AND you can hear it easily on a transistor radio.

most people dont notice the bass until its turned off. then everyone says "hey what happened" ? this was even true in the old days with an upright bass and no amp. i have played for people at my house (chicks) and they say "wow i never knew what the bass did" . when you are in the studio and you complain you cant hear your bass, the guy mixing mutes the bass channel and everything sounds naked, and he says "oh i can tell when its off so there must be enough".
