Because its entertaining. It sure beats "what's the best bass for metal?, what's better J bass or P bass?, what kind of strings should I use on my Stingray?, are Rickenbackers good or crappy?, are custom basses worth the money?, who's the best bass player ever?, can anything ever beat flats on a P bass? etc, etc. Rinse. Repeat.

Yep it's true. When you all you really need is your own appreciation to feel true satisfaction... then you really understand what it means to be a master basser.

I don't give a damn whether people think I'm the best musician in the band, the happiness from somebody saying 'you were great!' is nothing compared to the feeling of quiet contentedness when I think to myself 'yes, I nailed that!'. If you're chasing affection, you're always going to be dissapointed by that one person or that one time you don't quite meet the mark. Learn to appreciate yourself and you'll actually be happy and more secure with your playing.
No offense now OP but you sound abit like a guitar player hahahaha!!! they're easily the biggest whinners in the business. Anal retentive mommas boys until they reach the age of 50 or so. Then they realize that if and when they stop and listen to the rest of the band they need to first;

and Listen instead of just hearin'. Then they become musicians, know not all mind you but the vast majority of them. Its a shame ol' Chuck Berrys didn't stay a painter or whatever the hell he was. Then we'd be playing with a piano player tryin to emualate Jerry Lee, Lil Richard, Fats D. Prof. LongHair, ................and Liberace hahahaha!!! Then again the young people would be stuck with Elton J. Billy Joel ewwwww damn thats scary too.........I wonder if Willie Dixon, Ray Brown, Mingus hey isn't this what the OP wanted more Bassists leading the crowds and the bands???? Damn I think I left the bass amp on all night!!!! Gotta go. Doc

Eric, sorry I'm being so harsh on you. See, the internet hit the general public around the time I was your age, when it was made up ONLY of trolls. Every site you went to, everyone's asking how you can get AOL for free-er and which .com they should invest in. Everyone had to sink into the Internet and get comfortable...internet forums came to be, which brought some civility to the world of Livejournals of Myspaces... or so we thought.
In reality, internet forums became the caves in which trolls thrive. While the rest of the internet has some semblance of balance and reason, Forums are the one place that somebody can jump on it, stir up some controversy, and feel good about themselves that they started a discussion that ran 15 pages long.
The thing is though, those of us who have been around the Internet for awhile try to keep it clean and simple. If I post a question and it gets answered in 3 posts or less, I am satisfied I did not troll up the front page for too long. When you ask wide open-ended questions or generalized statements, or repeat the NUMBER ONE trolling joke in earnest and then claim it as your own (Which is the best bass for metal?) or start a thread which directly pits people of every religion or non religion against each other (the one a few days back), you start to be considered a "troll." Everyone who jumps into it like its a legitimate discussion, they are "feeding the troll." When every member of your forum is a troll or troll feeder, you are UltimateGuitar.com.
Like I said, I dont want to be hard on you, I just want to come over to your house and give you a lesson on the internet. A post awhile back you posted a full detailed description of every detail of your life. You've told us where you live, what you do, I practically know your parents, your school, your friends, etc. My name is Toastfuzz, I wont tell you my name, or where I live or what I do, because some people use that information maliciously. I dont think its your fault your a troll, I think you're just a greenhorn. Not to sit on a high horse, but you often see people timidly post that they've been reading ("lurking") TB for a long time before actually posting...they're getting a feel for the environment, the rules of the road, see others get bashed for doing certain things and make a mental note to avoid that and keep it real. Instead I think you jumped on and immediately made 10 threads that have been beat to death so hard theres Sticky's that specifically answer them in painful depth and then plead that you don't ask the question again. Then theres the search button, which can find all sorts of goodies hidden in the archives of the forums.
I called YOU a troll, in this circumstance, because after glancing over the first 3 pages, I can tell your initial question had no basis or reasoning and now you have a big generalized non-specific conversation about nothing that lasts 15 pages. You were not "under appreciated", you are not being appreciated at all, because you haven't played outside of your bedroom. Whine about being under-appreciated after your drummer lays your girlfriend for the 3rd time, or the band cuts you out for a floor synth, or something like that. Not just a general "I feel underappreciated because I'm 15." Because thats what you're REALLY saying, and it goes with the times. I could make a post saying "Bassists are underappreciated" because I didn't get the raise that I wanted at my non-bass-related job. It doesnt make any real sense, but it would spur 15 pages of drivel, half of which is people asking what the point is.
This love of your own technique, and not needing anyone else to appreciate yourself is the true sign of a master basser. Congrats.
I didn't quote your post in it's entirety, TF, but you hit the nail right on the head.
If you look at the OP's post history, and read most of the threads he's started, you quickly come to the conclusion that he's either 1) very young 2) someone pretending to be very young 3) a professional troll or 4) some combination of the above.
It seems very unlikely that someone who is 15 in this day and age is so unfamiliar with the internet and internet forums that they've never heard the term "troll". I think the ignorance the OP feigns is just part of his shtick, but that's just my opinion. Perhaps he really is sheltered and naive. Whatever the case, he comes across as a troll, whether he intends to or not.
The sad truth is that there are some TBers that are going to continue to treat him as a troll unless his posting behavior changes...and if he really is a 15 year old kid who's just looking for information, that's a big loss for him.
