We bin ENRON'ed!

Just got the electric bill for our small two bedroom townhouse in Suburban MD. Electric heat (not used this month), one room air conditioner which has ben running pretty steady what with the heat, washer/dryer, computer, stereo, lights.

Two hundred eleven bucks ($211.00). last year it was about $114.00, which was high enough.

I don't even practice plugged in at home that much.

Soo...anybody TB'ers wanna rant about energy costs? C'mon down here and sit by me...

My average electric bill this summer has been $250, to cool 1,648 sf. But we've had to run the ac nearly all summer, because it has been so hot. Also, the south side of the house is the one with the poor soil and no big trees to make shade. All the good trees are out back, on the north side.

I turn the ac up when we leave in the morning, so it won't be working so hard while we're gone, but still...that gets hard to pay for.

I just paid my $111 bill for a 2-bedroom apartment. I'm pretty good about turning up the temp on the AC when I leave for work in the morning, but that's still pretty high. I'm going to try to keep the lights off more often, I think, and get lower-wattage bulbs when the current ones go out.

I don't heat with electric but my electric bill is usually around $250 per month. I have to pay a delivery charge. Yup, some guy (although I've never seen him) brings me buckets of electricity to my house. So, if my electric bill would be $125 for the month based upon price x kwh then my bill gets about doubled and it's labeled as a delivery charge. Go figure. I also pay close to $4k a yr for heat. Welcome to New England!!

Can't you just buy a dumptruck of electricity at wholesale price? That would seem to save you a bit. You might need some place to store it all, but you can build a cheap shed for pennies. Just make sure you use it all before it spoils.

I heard the frozen concentrate kind is very good. You can keep it in the freezer for ages. It's pretty cheap, too, since they ship it from African electricity mines instead of being domestic, so they don't pay as much for labor. Short changing the Africans, but what ya gonna do?

Sorry but I can't power my AC with sweat shop labor (bad pun).
