Here is my take on why those one-note solos:

There was no amps or sound system back then and as you can hear the bands were playing really loud so the only way to cut thru for the soloists was to work on one note with rhythms to be heard. Try to play a solo with a very small bass amp beside a Marshall stack and we'll ending up with that kind of solo

Here is my take on why those one-note solos:

I've been always saying about an "instrument-oriented" soloing method.
I'd like for anyone to try to use that "really good video about those one-note solos" on the Double Bass.

P.S. What's good for the Sax or Hammond, it's not adequate for the Bass Guitar, but...
It's only my opinion.

I do believe they've missed a key topic of discussion. What drugs/alcohol were they using at the time? Our species was in the beginning stages of realizing the psychological effects of music. We didn't have the vast library we do now whenever where ever we want. That note and the feel back then was the driving force for that crowd.

lots of solos are playful and some are just fun(ny) without necessarily being particularly clever --- i'm not seeing/hearing anything on that five satins tune as 'out of line' for the era/tour/venue.

FWIW: i really like adam neely (a lot!) but i would never let him be the arbiter of what i think is music, jazz, or good.
