The only thing I've ever bought from Musicians Friend is a set of speakon ends I needed at 8:30 at night
I'm not a strong supporter of unions. In this case though, it looks to me like a union is necessary, and the sooner the better.

In the summer of 2006, Guitar Center purchased four stores in Texas from the popular South Texas and Central/South American company, Hermes.[30]
In February 2007, the direct response division of Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, purchased assets of the Indiana-based company Dennis Bamber, Inc., which included leading band and orchestra retailer, Woodwind and Brasswind, plus Music 123 and Lyons Music.

Actually, i think employment at GC would be excellent training for those interested in a career as a working musician. Your GC boss/BL is only interested in what they can get out of you and the second someone even a little better comes along, you are history. On the other side of the line, your GC customers/listening audience by and large have zero appreciation for your skills and the sacrifices you made to obtain them. They will like you as long as you can do something for them but when that ends, gone. The pay sucks, forcing you to room up with other musicians in marginal neighborhoods, and you have zero job security. I'm sure there are some points i've missed, but you get the picture.

I live in Canada and am nowhere near the border, so I will likely never have the opportunity to shop at GC. And with the Canadian dollar in the toilet I likely won't be doing any cross-border shopping via the Net anytime soon either. But just the same I am glad to have this info, because I have just mentally crossed GC/MF/ZZ/M123 off of the list of online retailers that I may, at some point, buy products from.
If all the Guitar Center employees get fired for not signing the paper, wouldn't Guitar Center actually lose money from not having any employees working?

It's like what happened with our retirement pensions administration with Pinochet, except worse, because as I seem to recall, USA is currently a democracy. Junta privatised the administration of retirement pensions. Already active and working employees had the option to stay in the old system and people starting out after the new law, didn't. But employers forced old employees to sign new contracts stating they joined the new private system.

I really like Guitar Center. Where else can I go to try out gear and then order it from Sweetwater hah. The company is a complete joke.
You can always try Sam Ash. As far as I know, they are still an independent family owned company. GC is owned by Bayne Capital, who is sucking the life out of them. This latest screw on the workers is typical of greedy Wall St. yuppies looking to line their pockets by running the help into the ground. I now buy from Sam Ash and not GC. It's too bad because I always liked GC, but the parent company sucks big wampum.
Am in the Orlando area, and was planning on visiting the local Guitar Center to check out different instruments. Given this information, I won't buy so much as a pick there.
