Wearing shorts on stage.

I heard wearing shorts will cause you to underpower your cabs, especially if you use a 4 x 10 and 1 x 15 in combination. Or something.

If you live in a suburb area I think it is ok to do so.
I've seen many bands do this in Southern Florida.

A lot of these guys might not relate to it because they have never had the opprtunity or may maybe don't have the ability to play at your level.

Thank you so much for the compliment. Your point is well taken because attire is typically matched to the style of the bands music. No punk or metal band needs to ever dress like mine! Even the 'we don't have a look'ers need to realize....no look is your look lol! Thanks again Bluewine.

People are always looking at the band members. If nobody is looking at you it might be time to re-think what your doing on stage. It's more than just playing bass.

+1. Us bigger fellas pull off shorts well in most situations, but there are times and places for everything. I've gigged outdoor events where shorts were ok and I've gigged upscale club/lounges were dress slacks and a button up shirt were expected. There is never a definite dress code and all you guys that say you would only were certain things ever would look silly at events that didn't require what your band wears, and that means you're closing off a possibility of gigs.

I'm old and fat and only play for fun anymore, which means I am wearing shorts about 95% of the time. When it gets cold I pull the jeans out. My days of trying to make it or wanting to playing in a band like faulkner's are over.

Now just having fun and wearing what I want and somehow staying booked more than I want in the process. Last night we played a pool party for an upscale apartment complex and everyone was wearing shorts (or less). Here's one from a recent outdoor festival.

So actually caring what we look like on stage makes us phoney? Okay. You go play your free to $40.00 (and drinks) gigs and I'll take my $200.00 to $400.00 (personal) per gig and have to sweat a little.

we get 6-800 a gig and ware what ever the hell we want to, I ware shorts in the summer and a t-shirt, some times a tank top, you just play to different people, the pay has nothing to do with it as you can see! You dont have to look like a stock broker to play good music and get paid well for it.

Some bands feel the need to 'dress up' for the occasion. Yeah, most look ridiculous.. Especially those f**king hats. Sheesh!!!! A lot, but not all, run the band like a corporate concentration camp. Band 'leaders' and all that crap!!!
T-shirt and jeans is my 'costume'. It fits nicely with what I'm doing. Our drummer usually wears shorts. It's hard and hot work pounding the skins.

If anyone told me that I had to dress a certain way, I would turn up to the gig in my underwear, just to piss 'em off. Play the gig, and then quit...

Luckily the band I'm in is a democracy. Each does his share and we get along great. It shows in the music.....

I agree...would never play in a band that had a leader, that's crap. and YES these bands that are dressed in the latest mens warehouse attire look goofy IMO.

Re: shorts - I will wear shorts to the beach or to a BBQ or something, but onstage? Never. Entertainers should not look like they are stopping in on the way home from a fishing trip.

Re: hats - I wear hats designed for adults.

Angus Young is the only rock star who can get away with dressing the same as he did when he was six.

I usually don't wear shorts, but at our last gig the crowd was mostly our regulars, and since the key player and singer wore them, I figured what the heck. Flip flops, otoh, should be strictly for very casual beach or pool party gigs.
