You know what, guy? You go worry about how you look on stage and wonder who's actually looking at you from the crowd. I'll be over hear enjoying myself and playing bass. I must've hit a nerve with one of my comments. So...what do you wear? A fedora? Piercings? Its eye liner, right? Do you work at GC when you're not scoring $400 gigs?

You've failed to make any counterpoint to my legitimate argument.

Some bands feel the need to 'dress up' for the occasion. Yeah, most look ridiculous.. Especially those f**king hats. Sheesh!!!! A lot, but not all, run the band like a corporate concentration camp. Band 'leaders' and all that crap!!!
T-shirt and jeans is my 'costume'. It fits nicely with what I'm doing. Our drummer usually wears shorts. It's hard and hot work pounding the skins.

If anyone told me that I had to dress a certain way, I would turn up to the gig in my underwear, just to piss 'em off. Play the gig, and then quit...

Luckily the band I'm in is a democracy. Each does his share and we get along great. It shows in the music.....

I always dress appropriately for the gig. Jeans, a button up and dress shoes are the most common gig wear. I just don't think shorts are appropriate. They make my butt look big. ;)

They may not be flattering to the rump.

Just don't wear white socks with your dress shoes.

I was in an original surf/beach band for almost 10 years. Our normal stage wear was shorts. We did the ESPN Summer Sizzle television series and the director would have been pissed if a band member showed up in long pants. On the other hand, if I wanted to be in a wedding band, I would be wearing dark slacks and a nice shirt. Wear what ever is best for the band and gig. I think some of us forget that watching a live band is also a visual experience for the audience.

People are always looking at the band members. If nobody is looking at you it might be time to re-think what your doing on stage. It's more than just playing bass.

I think shorts are just fine for weekend warriors that just wanna gig some. We have successfully targeted the type of clientele that is willing to pay top dollar for entertainment and have quickly become perhaps the busiest working band in the Phoenix area. One way we have achieved this is by always looking 'Clean as a MF'er' as Miles Davis used to say lol (read his autobiography)! Hey, whatever works for you! Rock shorts if ya wanna!

You guys look like a professional show band and probably getting the big bucks.

Your band looks great.

A lot of these guys might not relate to it because they have never had the opprtunity or may maybe don't have the ability to play at your level.

I agree, wardrobe and wearing appropriate threads is work. Something some bass players don't want to do. I think those that have that "I just worry about my playing" mind set usually don't have that much experience gigging.

And remember, there are some guys that are going to look great on stage no matter what their wearing,
