weed and you bass playing

People tolerance varies a lot, I'm 28 and I use 250mg to get a good buzz. 10mg is like a sip of bud light

That post should come with a warning label.

Now, we are talking edibles, correct? They metabolize differently.

When it became legal in Colorado, a guy ate a big chunk of a 100mg candy edible, saw visions, and killed his wife.

I think the best advice with edibles is, start with 10mg and slowly work your way up without hurting yourself or anyone around you.

There was a period of time that I would tell you smoking weed, or drinking made me play better. I got away from smoking after witnessing some pretty bad instances with weed and peoples underlying mental disorders. I'll still have some drinks, but not when playing. If I crack open a beer during practicing it'll take me a couple hours to drink it, if I have a few drinks prior to practice I don't bother picking an instrument up, it won't be a productive session.
Personally the drug that works for me best when writing and playing is a good meal, a cup of hot Barry's Irish blend tea, and an Aleeve

If you use weed does it effect your bass playing in a positive or negative way?
For me it really helps when I am learning theory and practicing scales arpeggios etc. I am more into it and feel more aware of what is happening. But playing cover songs for some reason it messes me up. I forget certain parts, loose focus and generally do not play as good.
Just wondering how it effects you?
I'd say, if used in the right context at the right time, it can be an enhancement. But the opposite can also be true. As a long time stoner, um... ah...what were we just talking about?

Since all drugs feed off ones anxiety and since a persons anxiety is constantly changing, it's hard to imagine someone thinking getting high will help my playing. ... It reduces you reaction time so there goes your groove. ... It distracts so there goes memory. ... If it's what you need then wait. ... Life's too short trying to remember if you had a good time.

@wraub - before I spend a good hour slogging through all those links you posted, do any of them support BassBrad’s earlier statement:

Here's the difference between weed and booze: after over 200,000 years of on and off use we have built in canaboid receptors in our brain cells and that's the avenue weed uses to effect you.

Which implies (a) humans have in fact been using cannabis on and off for 200 thousand years; and (b) we have evolved brain receptors tailored to be affected specifically by cannabis as a result.

I’m not questioning there are brain receptors that respond to THC. The fact we are affected by it clearly shows there are. But I don’t think they were put there just for that - or that we evolved them because we were supposedly using cannabis throughout human existence.

That was my question. Not whether or not there are receptors affected; or that cannabis might have been used for various purposes at various times and places besides that of smoking it with the intent of producing altered states of consciousness.

You may think you are learning and remembering but in reality cannabis effects your memory, and not in a positive way.

Like most substances, it depends on the amounts and frequency, just like it's not the same having a couple of beers here and there and drinking a bottle of vodka for dinner.

Some weed (and not all 'weed' is the same) in moderation can be a great booster of creativity and help focus.

I'm not saying you have to do it, but when people find that what they do has a positive effect in them, give them some credit instead of assuming you just know better than them.
