Just now I was winding on a set of D'Addario Half Rounds on my Jazz bass (Geddy Clone) and just about when I got the D string tuned to D the string let go! The core snapped right at the tuning peg.

I tell you what it sure makes a funny sound through the amp!:D

So, I emailed D'Addario and we'll see what's what....must have restrung my basses dozens of times over the years and never once had one let go right out of the box....

I guess there is a first time for everything.

And it looks funny as hell with 3 strings! Maybe I'll take one of and be the guy from The Presidents Of The United States....I can always learn how to play "Lump"

I will check with them, he had to order them so I went right to the Contact Us part of D'Addario's website. I have never had this happen and never had an issue with any D'Addario strings before this.

And I get the strings on the bass and tune them in with a tuner as to not overshoot the mark...so the chances of overtuning are nill.

I have been a long time user of D'Addarios - but - I've noticed that recently (the last couple of years or so) the quality seems to have slipped. I also had a new string do just like yours. I have many basses, and I've also notcied that, far to early, the ones with D'Addarios get rusty (the strings, not the bass), whereas I've begun using an unknown brand that a music guy in Myrtle Beach "makes' and surprisingly, they sound as good as the D's and don't quickly rust. Added bonus - they only cost about $10-$12 bucks a set. I do wipe down all strings frequently while playing and a thorough wipe down after a gig or practice etc. :cool:

Guess what?

Broke again! But I found out why! The string tapers down right where it contacts the string tree (button) and creates too much tension at that point and blamo! Popped string.....

Don't ask how I just figured that out but suffice it to say I am truly an Idiot....

So, I will be buying this replacement as it is not fair to D'Addario to keep an idiot busy on their dime....

Well, I have to follow up.

The Perfect Bass has the half rounds in the .45 - .100 gauge, so that is what I ordered. They arrived in a few days and are now sitting happily on the bass. And the sound great, not too zingy and not too mellow! And I LOVE this gauge size! it is amazing to me how much nicer the .100 feels over the .105! ( IMHO )

And no I did not pop the D string again but this does speak loudly to why I want a Fender Button and not one of the cheaper notched types like is there now...

Also, I am so pleased with these I am going to look into putting them on my 5'er when replacement time comes....
(that is if they come in 5 string sets...I have to look)

Oh, and I saved 10% with the Talk Bass discount.....:D
