Jared Lash, those both look awesome!
Thanks! They are about to start construction so maybe I should post a built thread for them.
Gretsch.
Yeah, there's something about that body shape. I think my fascination with it is due in part to the fact that (to me at least) it looks like the back end of a late 50's Cadillac.
Good point....Ric is an odd shape you don't see everyday. We think alike apparently, I was drawing plans for a bass (I want to build one, but I've never done it) and the drawing I made came out identical to your second drawing with a differently shaped pickguard. I was attempting to combine a Jazz bass and a Ric
Yeah, they are variations on Chris Stambaughs ODB body style and I've always suspected he was trying to marry a jazz and a Ric. My rounder variation then is closer to a Ric/Tele/Precision blend which I like.
I personally love the aesthetics of the Ric as well as the tone. But I've never gotten along with them all that well from and ergonomic standpoint.
I love the Ric body shape, just not a fan of the hardware (knobs, pickguard) and their layout.
That drawing with the Ric body w/Tele-inspired pickguard/knobs - THAT appeals to me.
Yep, pretty much my thoughts too. I'm hoping for a nice modern/vintage vibe. That being the case, I don't think my body styles are all that "out there".
On the other hand, this Jerzy Drozd is (IMO) both very far from the norm and yet appealing. I'd say it definitely fits what this thread is discussing:
