Weird body shapes

To me those always looked like they either left off some of the body parts or someone removed them. Talk about a 60's era retro look.

I always thought Gretsch copied this from the mid 60s Guild JetStar Bass. And except for the price, I'd also like to have one of these, hanging right next to one of the fore mentioned Guilds.
I often wonder what the response would be if no one had ever seen this body shape before and someone posted it as a custom shape here on Talkbass:
It's VERY far removed from Fender, Gibson or even Warwick/Spector shapes.
What would people think about the 4003 design if they'd never seen it before?
Obviously a large part of the appeal traditional shapes is that they are recognizable and therefore comfortable to them aesthetically. Because objectively speaking the Ric has a pretty "out there" shape.
But what do I know - here are the shapes for my two upcoming customs:
The first puts me in mind of a cross between a Peavey raptor guitar and their Zodiac bass. The second is like a Fender Roscoe Beck with a Ric influenced outline.

Thanks. And you definitely busted me on the second bass. Both of them have Chris Stambaugh's ODB body shape. The first one has a telecaster like pickguard and control plate and the second one I was absolutely aiming for a 70's version (ash body, maple board, 70's pickup position etc) of a Roscoe Beck V.
And they are almost done:
To add another one, my ACG Skelf 6 has an unusual body shape, but it works well with the fanned frets.

The body shape in that first pic is pretty much perfect IMHO...love it!
I always thought the Jackson Anti-Grav was weird.

The Anti-grav is what happens when you have a lot of odd cutoffs laying around your shop from other models' production, and you glue them together.

By "weird and funky" I'll bet you're referring to the boutique and custom shop stuff. I would explain this by saying that if I spent $5K - $20K on a bass I would absolutely want to put pictures of it all over the internet. When you own an instrument like that you're dropping the ball if you don't show it off. After all, TBer's are mostly gear geeks who love looking at pictures of stuff like that - I know I am! Not everyone who buys a nice spector or ibanez is going to feel compelled to go online and post pics of it, but a much higher percentage of people who buy custom stambaughs or jerzy drozds probably will. That's why you see so many wild and wacky designs on here.
