Yeah, he had a P installed. Not really any big deal. Great players though!

Not an appealing Ric (appearence wise), but incredible tone, and all three are monster musicians!

  7. I've always liked Paul Gilbert's sense of humor.

It'd be a very, very cool mod to do to a knockoff Ric, or a cheaperone that's missing all it's guts and stuff, as you see every now and then.

I made a thread about this probably a year ago, and it got decently long. Very cool none the less.

This bass pops up every 6 months or so, as long as I've been a member here, anyway. Most OP's thinking it's a rare model, or a Ric Custom Shop.

I've never seen position markers on the back of the neck before. I imagine he can feel them, is that the idea?

Looks like a Model 4000 with a custom made pickguard and a precision bass pickup. I've seen it done before Chris Brubeck has a Jazz bass pickup mounted in his Ric.

  13. Tremendous player, don't really like the looks of the bass, though...

BTW why is there masking tape on the back of the neck?

  15. It's most likely just duct tape set where the inlay markers on the fretboard are. I've seen some local guitarists around here do that. That way you can feel where you're positioned as you run your hand up the neck. I've been thinking about doing it with electrical tape to my VM jazz bass. Would look pretty cool with the black inlays and all

wouldn't that be far more useful with a fretless?

The white tape or whatever markers on the back of the neck are what it make it look most weird to me. Id imagine he had his tech install the P pup set for him. Prob did a custom pickgaurd for it to, to go with the P pups.

It's funny how even with a P pup in the right position, it still sounds like a Ric.

    Racer X is so sick!

  20. I don't even have to click the link and I can probably guess you're talking about the Scarified video.
