weird prices?

i didnt quite know hot to title this but..

in guitar center today they had an ampeg 8x10 at a prety standard $999.

on ther other side of the ampeg display was a 6x10. the price? $950.

am i being lead to be lieve that ampeg speakers cost $25 each or is this some weird price glitch? both are new.


this reminds me of the time i was buying mario golf, the video game. it was $50 new and $55 used because they only have one used.

i think it more has to do with the construction of the cabs- the 6x10 is ported, while the 810 is the classic sealed design... it is an odd pricing structure on the surface to be sure... i would hope ampeg speakers cost more than $25 apiece

A year and a half ago they were selling the 610hlf's everywhere for $829. I'm not sure why they increased the price so much.

That's about right for what Ampeg pays for them. But the cost of the drivers is but a small percentage what it costs to get a cab on the sales floor. The highest percentage? Marketing.

+1 The majority of the "cost" of a cab IMO is the shipping and the retail overhead, not the individual components.

There are differences in construction between these two cabs. The 810 also doesnt have a horn if i remember correctly, and the 6x10 does. If that is enough to justify the price difference, however, i dont know...
