I can't help it if people haven't been using the correct terminology. "People like Jersey Shore type folk" are guido's (IMO/IME).

And this statement:

"People like Jersey Shore type folk are really limited to one county in NJ. They do not exist any other place in the country and certainly not in CT."

is ridiculous. I don't believe anybody here is "out to attack you", but with statements like that, you have to expect some fairly strong rebuttals. Trying to discuss a topic you're clearly ignorant about isn't going to garner very positive results on a public forum.

In any case, good luck with doing the gig or turning it down, and please keep us updated. :)

To me: All jersey shore type folk are guidos but not all guidos are jersey shore type folk. Most people that live in the tri state area would agree, but like the guidos...not all. In either case, this has nothing to do with this thread. None of the people involved would be considered either guido or jersey shore type folk by anyone in the world.

I don't feel like I'm getting attacked about that statement, but about the gig in question. If one more person PM's me or tells me about a divorce lawyer in this thread...

This seems like it needs to be posted on every page for the lazy: I'm not the one getting married. They are not getting a divorce because of a band playing at their wedding, especially when it was decided by both of them. Did anyone else get a divorce because you and your wife picked out a photographer together, that did a bad job? No, probably not. If you did, I'm sure that wasn't the main catalyst and the marriage was probably going to fail anyways.

I'm sick of reiterating the same thing over and over, and of people telling me good luck with my marriage. It's fine. I promise.

Trying to wrap my brain around this one. How exactly are you defining a "Jersey Shore type" person, how do you define a "guido", how are all Jersey shore people guidos, and what's the difference between the 2 as you see it? I live in the tristate area, have family that lives in Jersey, a nephey who's a cop on the Jersey shore, I grew up fighting with "guidos" and "cuisines", am Italian myself, yet I don't have a clue what you're talking about. And I'm curious.

These people are what I would consider Jersey Shore type folk. Guido would be pretty much any Italian man if you felt like being derogatory. Again...this has nothing to do with this wedding.

I've run into large packs of guidos in Staten Island, also in Yonkers believe it or not...they all puff their chest out, wear the necklaces, drive a z28 and are pretty sure they can kick anybody's azz in the place, except they're all 5'6" and will start looking for reinforcements the second things get ugly and you dot their eye.

Sounds like the guitarist was just on an ego trip...kinda like a way to let ALL his friends and family know "I'M A MUSICIAN! LOOK AT HOW BETTER THAN YOU I AM! MY WEDDING IS BEST WEDDING!". Probably didn't cross his mind that the majority of guests attending don't care much about progressive metal, or metal in general, just as long as he looks cool.

Another one of these? I dont see the big deal about someone using your rig, I would not let anyone use my bass, but my rig I dont care, I really doubt they are going to blow the thing up, ya things happen, but the chances are slim compared to looking like a stuck up A** for being greedy/pampering your rig! Nothing against you, and I KNOW I am alone on this, but still my feelings on the whole thing! Good luck, I hope the gig works out good!

Here's a brief update, I've got to get ready for a gig so I'll type up a better response later on.

Did the gig, it went okay. The singer the groom "hired" was AWFUL. He forgot words to the songs, with the lyrics right in front of his face.

The overall sounds was way too loud. The drummer was running the board while I was out font telling him what to do. He wasn't too happy when all of my critiques were basically that the snare was too loud. I finally gave up arguing with him about it. I set up a video camera to record it. The video is unuseable because the camera was shaking around so much. It has IS (image stabilization) and was sitting on top of a Gitzo 2 series tripod the whole time. Nothing should have made it shake, but that's how loud it was.

We ended up playing:
Firewoman - The Cult
She Wolf - Megadeth
Heaven Beside You - AIC
Silent Lucidity - Queensryche
Crazy Train - Ozzy (with a 4 yo boy singing)
Mary Jane's Last Dance - Tom Petty (with me singing)
Wasted Years - Iron Maiden
Barracuda - Heart (very "metaled" up, with awful AWFUL singing from the grooms Mom)

Although one of the original worries, that was quickly put to rest when everybody in the band told him he was crazy for wanting a jam session at his wedding with people that may or may not actually know how to play walking up on stage. However, random drunk people I never met playing my stuff? I don't think so.

We were the only ones that ended up playing.
