Weirdest name of a band you've ACTUALLY BEEN IN

"Dark Donnie and the Penetrators" - I tried out, and got in, and planned to play with them, but actually misplaced their contact info by accident early on, and never heard back from them.

In high school, I played with a band where I was the young kid. We first called ourselves "The Furburgers." The singer thought it was offensive, so we were "The Furburgers with Rick." We got flack at a local high school, and weren't allowed to play there, so we changed the name to my favorite:

"The Vertical Tacos" - it was pretty bizarre hearing the band announced over the high school PA system as the band playing that day during lunch.

Other weird band names that I played in:

"Feedback"
"The Monkey Tree Society"
"Something In the Trees"

For about a month, Trout Mask Replicated, Maybe two weeks, Bovine Algebra, Trey Square and the Rather Large Trio (we were five pieces and the singer, Trey). Before and after that it was pretty common names, Jazz Impressions, The Melody Makers, Satin (although a lot of people read Satin as Satan, go figure...) etc...

Moral Sex (yeah, a so-so hardcore punk band)
Cuddlefish (goofy mix of '70s rawk and punk with silly lyrics)

Agent Orange- Became a real band later.
That right there is cool! I saw them in the early '80s, I assume you weren't in the band by then.
Jean Claude Van Band.
I'm truly envious of this one. Excellent.
Young Gunz.
"Cirkus Freak"
Arrgh! Taking a standard set of words and changing a letter or two to create a misspelling (with no puns or double meanings), for a band or business name, should be outlawed. Wyld Stallyns, anyone? :D

heh heh... Butttruck

Obviously not a christian band. However, in the spirit of Christopher Guest and crew, to parody one. The running joke was regarding these crosses that disparagingly loom over the local unholy wal-mart. Pretty hilarious.

Sounds stupid but I've yet to be ashamed of that one. :smug:

I was in a band for a bit in college (late 70's early 80's) that had the working name "Purple Fetus". But eventually the drummer balked, and they changed the name to "Missing Link". Yawn. I left not long after that, over creative differences that can pretty well be summed up by the name change.

Around the same time, one of my friends was in "Oedipus & the Mother F#%kers". I thought that was pretty creative.
