Well, he DID run Disney Consumer Products...

New from Fender - The very first MM (mickey mouse) style bass we've created! With it's oversized "ears" on the headstock to it's factory tuning of high C major, Fender has created something that is at home rocking in Never NeverLand and grooving away in Treasure Island! ****Pixie dust and left handed available for small upcharge****

I read the first review, apparently something about it changing into a pumpkin after midnight makes it really uncomfortable for a 3 set gig.

When was the last time Fender had a CEO that was an actual musician? It's probably been quite a while.

Never, as far as I know. Leo didn't play.

From the posted link:

Mooney has been a player, collector and student of Fender® guitars and amps for more than 40 years, studying classical guitar in grade school and working summer jobs as a teenager to pay for his first-ever electric guitar: a Fender Musicmaster™. He now boasts a collection of more than 30 Fender guitars.

“As a longtime fan and user of Fender products, it’s a dream come true to be asked to lead a brand and company that I personally have so much admiration for,” said Mooney.

Well, maybe he won't "Disnify" Fender. Maybe.

I would rather have someone who knows how to run a business right than someone who knows how to play an instrument. My concern is that his strength appears to be in marketing and placement of products - does that mean that Fender is placing more value on selling the "Fender" name on bar stools than in producing good instruments? That would be my major worry.

Well that's encouraging. I simply hope he manages to clean up the giant freaking financial mess that the previous CEO made with the botched buyout followed by sale of KMC.
