Well, he DID run Disney Consumer Products...

I work for Disney animation, and let me tell you, Disney is not only just about the toughest business competitor out there, they are truly geniuses at building brands and having them work together. Fender could (possibly) thrive under that kind of business savvy.
I am not a Disney fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, but nobody NOBODY can outdo Disney at what they do best.

I don't know about the other divisions (Disney is HUGE), but Disney animation does not do any outsourcing. I was surprised when I learned this, but it's true. I believe they are the only large animation company that does not.

But given all that, hiring one high-ranking person from a successful company does not imply that either the successes or failures of that company will be duplicated at the hiring company.

Either that is false or their animation division hired nothing but Korean-American's for Doug's 1st Movie. I found the movie at a garage sale and re-watched it on the weekend and my friend and I noted how all the animators were Korean. Mind you, that movie was made in the 90s so things may be different today.

If I had a do-over in life it would be to pursue a position in Disney animation (old school animation before CG). Seems like a job I'd love to go to everyday. I envy you smeet

Annnnd, I think Fender has been somewhat of a "Mickey Mouse" operation for a few years now :D but they have made some good basses and I love mine.

Or, if that doesn't fly, they'll move the 3rd world laborers here under suspiciously obtained visas, and force those laid off US employees to teach their replacements the job. (See today's news.) :( Of course, they've established "plausible deniability" by doing it through a contractor.

Sickening.

But, you know by mentioning this you risk incurring the wrath of the folks who LOVE their $200 poverty-built gear.

To m, he seems to be quite capable. He worked for both Nike And Disney for a good long while, both highly successful companies. If he was a complete bob, I don't believe he would have lasted as long in either company.
On top of that, him being a long time musician and Fender fan seems to be a good thing.

Agreed.
Could it be that someone who appreciates music and musical instruments along with a keen business sense could now be in charge of a company that most of us love/loved?
How about this dream:
July 1st 2015 - Fender Musical Instruments is pleased to announce that they are bringing back Genz Benz amplifiers along with the original staff..

Tough times for the instrument business unless you are high end niche and even so, reliant on limited market that's declining. Probably some house cleaning is necessary from both a personelle and brand/sku perspective. Both previous companies are tough environments operating in highly competitive international markets.

Yes, things were WAY different back then. That is now regarded as a dark chapter in Disney's history. Management went through a massive upheaval and things are much better now. Better, but not perfect...

It's a beautiful dream. It would be a shame to CRUSH IT!!!! :crying::***::vomit::mad:

Yeah, it's a cool company that has done amazing work for almost a century, and I'm happy to be working here. But they were a Nazi-sympathizing (rumored) sweat shop (fact) in the old days, so it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. No Nazis these days, but there are still other kinds of politics. I won't go into it here.
Anyway, at the end of the day it's a good job, but just a job. I'd rather be rocking onstage... :( :D:hyper::bassist:

Well, it was foreseen...

I don't get all the Hello Kitty in the thread, that pop-icon is a Sanrio sensation, not Disney.
