But they don't usually use melodica's in Country music do they?

Recently, I signed up for Latin jazz class and because they were a trio, the pianist doubled on melodica for the melody. Completed my disappointment of the rather hokey folk tunes presented with an awful plastic harmonica tone. So, yeah, in this case, I have an axe to grind. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually, but I think I have been badly scarred. Even now, I can hear that tone in my mind's ear. More fuel for my nightmares!

They're trying to get away from the sound, too...

Bagpipes - an instrument that sounds exactly the same AFTER you learn to play it...

One of the worst things about trying to practice the highland bagpipe anywhere is that after playing for long enough one would invariably be accosted by one of two types of people:

"Such a lovely sound! So evocative of the mountains and glens. No wonder I love the pipes, my great aunt's grandfather's cousin was 1/8 Scottish. Can you play 'Flower of Scotland'?"

Or...

"Hey, cat-strangler, can you play 'over the hills and far away'? No? Shame, I wouldn't have to hear you then. Ha ha! Ho ho!"

Bass is far less hassle.
