Welp, did it again... NBD (dots and binding Jazz)

I had the piping on the case replaced by a local luthier and he stained the white stitching with some sort of red dye. I noticed the silks of the labellas flats matched the fender logo and figured why not have the case match it as well.

Follow up on this. I reshaped the neck to headstock transition to match the real '66, refinished the neck in nitro, added the real '66 tuning machines and a much, much better decal to replace the inkjet repro that was on it. Also did a slight fret dress.
Looks and feels pretty convincing now IMO.

Lovely - such a nice J. hope you are having a nice restful holiday David. Is it snowing there? We're actually getting a "normal" wet and cold winter here in the Bay Area for a change.

Thanks JIO.
Yes! Snowing - not a lot but 'real' winter. I was just in Greek Cyprus for a week so got a good boost of sun (food and culture). Good to hear that the Bay Area is getting some needed reconstituting weather. All the best to you and yours!

When do we get a see/hear you play this beauty. Maybe a comparison video between the 66’ and the JB65?

I should do this, it's true. Have gigged very little since covid (and on the few I did I used the '66) so no good live video opportunities recently - some OK pics tho...

They sound pretty different just as the electronics are different. The '66 has the original pickups (fairly low resistance with the neck at a little over 6k and the bridge just over 7k and I wired it with @walterw's series wiring (of which I am a big fan) and the MIJ has the DiMarzio UltraJazz pickups (which sound good but of a different character) plus the Sadowsky preamp. Subjectively, I prefer the '66 and the punchy quality of the series setup - though the MIJ sounds very good (and no single coil hum issues) and good to have options...

Did this pic give your singer a Jesus complex? :)

OK, here's a quick comparison. All settings the same, tone open, same strings. Battery out of the JB65 to completely bypass the Sadowsky pre - I do notice a slight boost otherwise. Bass to Logic direct via Focusrite. No pre-amp, no pre-sets, amp or cab simulation, effects, etc. Nekkid. Everything flat. Not ideal tone but trying to make it an apples to apples comparison. '66 first, JB65 second. Pretty close IMO.
