Wenge Neck Club

I searched but couldn't find a club for those of us who use and love Wenge necks. Any interest?

I've been loving Wenge necks since playing my Warwick Fortress Masterman, and since that left, I've been craving that glorious feel of Wenge once again. So, I've put a few parts basses together, both with wenge necks.

I've had a bit of interest from some members wanting to get Wenge necks for their parts basses & a few asking if we should start a Wenge Neck Club. So, hear it is!

If you love Wenge necks and have one on a parts bass or standard like some Warwick's etc, post some pics & if you want a member number, let me know!

I'll start the ball rolling! Here are pictures of my 1995 Warwick Fortress Masterman (sold) and my jazz & p-bass parts builds with Wenge necks!

I am really liking the Wenge neck on my jazz. Sound is similar to the roast maple neck I had previously, but this wenge neck has almost infinite sustain, it's freaky crazy. And that's on top of the amazing looks. Thanks, @HowieD72 for starting the club.

Also, I was worried about the open grain wenge has feeling rough. Yeah, others have said it's fine, and Aaron at Warmoth did an exotic wood shootout video a few years ago where he said it was a fast feel. Well, OK, it's good, I admit. I think the open pores reduce the friction or something, dunno.

The neck I bought was a generic ebay Chinese special. I had a previous Chinese maple neck that had a lot of fret issues I had to fix, but this neck is really good for a low price. A tiny bit of ski ramp on the last few frets, but no buzzing elsewhere or dead spots. I'll level and crown the last frets one of these days if it starts bugging me.

I don't think I'll swear off maple shaft necks, but certainly wenge checks all the boxes for a neck wood. And it doesn't require a finish to be applied.

Looking forward to thoughts from others on this thread.

Well I once had a Wenge & Bubinga neck through Thumb. It was one of those dream basses that I sought for a long time - but later was a disappointment. Great neck, loved the way the body felt holding it.... but ultimately between neck dive & the lack of radius to the fretboard I had to let it go.

That P-Bass looks awesome !

Perhaps one day I'll do a custom build with wenge. I did like that neck, just not the board that was mounted to it.

I snagged one last month at the Warmoth sale should be here in a few weeks, can’t wait, popping that on a custom order MJT p. I do have a 8 banger built by Endres. Hard V with maple stringer and volute. Love Wenge!

My first Wenge neck I ordered from Warmoth. It was stunning! It was a Wenge neck with a Ebony fingerboard.

I loved the bass, but wanted a lighter instrument. I then traded the loaded neck for a 2006 Ibanez SR500 (bass on the right). This bass also has a Wenge neck with Bubinga stringers. I'm a sucker for Wenge now! It's extremely stable and sounds great.

Thanks for the lead on the Wenge neck, Howie. It came in last week and I'm search for the right body to put with it.
