Wenge Neck?

Hey guys I am surprising my dad with a bass for his B-day, I am getting it made from a local Luthier. My father has always loved Wenge necks but I don't have much experience with this wood. What body woods mix well with this as a neck wood.

P.S. It is also the fingerboard wood.

I like wenge and maple together. My 8-string has a 5-ply wenge/flame neck set deep in a soft maple body.

Go with wenge for the actual neck with a Birdseye fretboard, TruOil'd. It would be beautiful.

I have an MTD with a Wenge neck and fretboard and I love it. The neck feels so good in the hand. The body is swamp ash with a maple burl top.

Wenge is a fantastic neck wood . I've liked it on every instrument I've played with one . Currently on a Hog body and sounds amazing .This one has an Ebony board

IME...Wenge is very stable, heavy, rough texture,...make great necks and FB's...but not my thing...

I had a MTD with a wenge/wenge neck and an avodire/flamed redwood top and it was just amazing!

I've got a Roscoe with an all-Wenge neck/fingerboard and a Swamp Ash/Bubinga body. Sounds massive across all frequencies. IMO, there is no better neck wood for performing live due to the feel (even when I'm sweating hardcore onstage).

Your going to get a million responses here re: wood combos. Mine is going to be bubinga. Wenge and bubinga have always been a classic and fantastic combo in my head.

Heres a pic I found of a Warwick Corvette with a wenge board and bubinga body. Looks like its a neck through with a maple neck.
