Whammy Showdown!

haha yeah, the band is almost a totally new lineup now though, minus the singer(it's really his band) so if you were hoping to see a hot chick drummer, you'd be suprised to see bill, about as far from a hot chick as you can get... (a monstrosity of a drummer though)

ok sorry for the hijack, back to your whammy madness

the first clip of disposition(with bass whammy) i played was played throug an actual amp, the newer ones i played witht eh xp100 were played throug some crappy line 6 amp models on this interface i was using, my amp is at the drummers, next time we get together, i'll make sure to make some better clips with an actual amp

the WH-4 sounds.. "crisper" and a bit more thick, I'd say.

who can recreate the schism solo the best? and why the hell does justin's whammy seem to have more "power" than the bass whammy/WH-4? heh. when he was playing that solo live, it felt like the notes were punching me in the face.

It's the whole rig. GK + Mesa + Wal = BASS + PUNCH :D

Recording direct with a Whammy often can lose some (if not much) of that impact.

alright, i thought about it, and i think we should try to do this:
1)get one of each Whammy together.
2)have the owner of each Whammy send the Whammys to one TBer.
3)have that TBer scrutinize the heck out of the sound quality or "naturalness" and tracking.
4)when that TBer is reviewing, make sure that he only bases his review on the modes that each Whammy has in common
5)once that TBer has done his review, but kept it to himself until the time is right he packs each Whammy very nicely in a box, he sends it to another TBer
6)that TBer repeats steps 3 through 5
7) we do that until 5 TBers have their reviews ready for us to read, and then we have sen each of their reviews to ETEcarmine who posts all of their reviews in one large post.

so, watcha think? be honest.

Sounds like quite a valiant effort, but I'm not sure how many people will feel comfortable with shipping their Whammies around. I know it's for the sake of scientific discovery, but it's still people's money and beloved gear. I wouldn't shoot it down though because I'm sure that plenty of TBers know each other and if we could get the 4 or 5 pedals together through people who are cool with each other, that would be great. Maybe it would be less trouble and more effective if once the pedals are all together, whoever has them would record clips with the same bass and same amp and post them all on this thread. Who knows. I don't own any Whammies whatsoever, so I can't really put any of this together. Any willing participants?

ok how about this... how many people here are actually shooting for a wh-1?

i own an xp-100 and live in queens, NY, tbird owns a wh-4 and lives in queens,NY and dexterward just bought himself a bass whammy and lives in brooklyn. NY and if somebody in NY has a WH-1, u can come too heh

we are all a train ride away from each other, lets the 3 of us get together some time, and use the gear that people want to hear the most going into the whammy and which one of our amps they want to hear it going into..

tbird and i have the same amp so i dont think it will matter, not sure of dexterward has thoug. we can also use different distortion and over drives with it since we had some talk about how they cancel out the low end drop and what not..

but is this a good idea? are u guys down?

here is my gear...

basses:
schecter custom-4 (this is my favorite, it will get u that tool sound)
ibanez sr-400 (this one has a P and J, and i know a lot of u guys here like ur Ps and Js)

gain:
EHX little big muff
boss odb-3

whammy:
xp-100

amp:
peavey tnt 160 1x15
