What’s up with the ads in threads?

Just today I noticed that ads are now popping up in the middle of threads (between posts). Is anyone else seeing this? There have long been ads at the tops and bottoms of TB threads but the in-the-middle ads are new to me. And no, I don’t want to expand my business to Nigeria. Annoying and invasive in a way that the other ad locations aren’t.

Hi Folks,

I see a lot of people on this thread that are on TB all the time.

My question to those who are not supporting members but are on TB at least twice a week.

Isn’t it worth to you donate a little money that you are using at least 104 times a year for basically entertainment purposes?

We are the entertainment.

People forget that sites like this rely on content. Who provides that content? Us. To put it in terms marketers understand, the users here are the product that's being sold, not the site itself.

None of the revenue that's made here through ads would be generated if it were not for the content that people view, which we create. So it's very unfair to suggest that the most active among our membership aren't supporting the site unless they also open their wallets or open themselves up to targeted ads.

Some will, some won't. It's ok either way. If they were really concerned about this, why not make it members-only, where no one can participate without paying a monthly or yearly fee? They can keep it ad free, and get both content and direct support from the same, but smaller group of people.

i'm a supporting member and, starting today, have noticed quite a few ads in-between the threads.

the ads are mostly from 'reverb' with a few sprinkled in from other entities.

maybe they're trying to bump up their numbers for 'gold members'? gold members are ad-free:

Allowing "acceptable" ads is a default setting that you can change to a complete block. Like others using it, I've never seen an ad here or on YouTube and most other websites.

I need to occasionally update my lists with Youtube. They're banner/front-page splash sometimes slips through AdBlock.

But yeah OP, just get Adblock.
