What’s up with the ads in threads?

Just today I noticed that ads are now popping up in the middle of threads (between posts). Is anyone else seeing this? There have long been ads at the tops and bottoms of TB threads but the in-the-middle ads are new to me. And no, I don’t want to expand my business to Nigeria. Annoying and invasive in a way that the other ad locations aren’t.

Geez, they put ads up here? I had no idea. I use Brave and AdblockPlus (which, as far as I know, has not "sold out" - I do know if you go searching for the browser extension, there are some AdBlock "lookalikes" that probably don't do as good a job, maybe that's what that other guy was using).

I've noticed that now and then YouTube will figure out a way to sneak ads past Adblock, but it never takes long before Adblock reworks their code to take care of that.

Go into your advanced settings, update your filter lists and use a new tab to re-open the page. Works for me every time.

Nope, supporting members getting ads now where we did not before. Beef up your reading comprehension.
1000 Pardons. I thought my statement was clear and factual. Allow me to explain in further detail so you may fully comprehend my last post: If a supporting member had made the complaint, I would have had no issue with it. However, the OP is not a supporting member, and consequently I am irritated by the original post. My emotional reaction to the premise of the thread has blinded me to any other dialog on the topic. Thus, all I see is a non-supporting member complaining about ads on a free site. If what you say is true, then by all means I would like to encourage the supporting members to complain to their hearts content.

Hi Folks,

I see a lot of people on this thread that are on TB all the time.

My question to those who are not supporting members but are on TB at least twice a week.

Isn’t it worth to you donate a little money that you are using at least 104 times a year for basically entertainment purposes?
I do routinely re-up my membership when I have stuff to sell. I guess it's lapsed now, but I'll be back at some point.

I don't mind the ads, and as someone who has gotten a great deal of value out of TB over the years, I even click on them with some regularity to help support the site. :)
wait . . . clicking on the ads helps TB?
Even if you have no intention of buying?

I can do that

While we are on this subject, when I view TB on my android I get different ads then when I'm on desktop, and the android ads are bigger than my screen . . . I think . . . I HOPE . . . because one ad is simply a picture of a pretty girl and the words "Complete your collection"

That can't be right, can it?!!!!

I mean, do any of you have a collection of pretty girls?
And, did you get them from the ad on TB?:woot:

To the first paragraph: Yes, I believe the advertisers pay the sites based upon the number of clicks the site generates for the advertiser.

To the second part: I guess ... if you call three a "collection". We just call it "home".

Moving from Misc to Suggestion Box, as this is a thread about reacting to TB as a service, nothing musical.

TB is a private business for profit, and ads are a part of its revenues. Gold Membership (not just Supporting) exempts you from seeing ads on the site. The owner, @paul, posted today that he is trying a new ad service and will be making tweaks as he sees how it works.

On the whole ad blocker thing, I don't think I'm aware of any other commercial enterprise that platforms discussion about how to negate that enterprise's own revenue streams.
