Double Bass What about Prodipe BL21 Lanen?

Thinking about picking one of these up in Europe next month. Worth a try at that price. I would try to blend with a FC through my Headway. There seems too be no distribution in the USA. Hence the lack of response.
I'm also looking at the Audio Technica ATM450 (relatively inexpensive Side address small diaphragm condenser) for either H Clamp or under bridge mounting.

Oeps my mistake. The site of Thomann listed it as omnidirectional. But it is still not a hypercardiod like the DPA4099b.
Besides that the frequency response curves are not shown for the lower frequencies on the site of prodipe.
But it could be a interesting option when looking for a microphone.

I'm endorsed by prodipe, specially for this mic, BL21.
It's really a good stuff, for the price, it does every things you need in a live situation, i found, it provides a better resistance, before the feedback appears, than a DPA.
In a negative way, the switch band start at 50Hz, so for me it cuts the low-end of my bass, it's well made, but in china.
His voltage it's 3v-52v, you can use it, with Headway, or any preamp (even the BL29 from AKG), or straight in a PA.
The best things to do, if someone is interested by the BL21, it's to write a mail directly at the factory, in France, they are nice, and they could send straightly the mic, and although endorsed some of you,guys.

It costs @$124.00 dollars plus shipping from france vs a DPA 4099B Dvote Core at @ $619.00 new. European warranties are typically 2 years.
Here's the mic's specifications followed by DPA's Specirications for the 4099B Dvote Core as a reference. Apples to Oranges mind you but IMHO you get what you pay for.

I didn't play with the prodipe, the unique reason is : i lost it on a gig
but it was really a good option (sound/price) and in a lot of live places you don't hear the difference between

I just bought one of these through Amazon for $108 shipped. Being a gear-junky, I was just curious, since it has such a low price point. I haven't gigged with it yet, just played it in my studio, but so far I have to say, it's quite amazing. It easily goes to jazz-gig level volume without feedback, and it sounds excellent.
I have used almost everything out there for double bass mics: the Remic green, DPA4099, ATM350, Ischell, EVRE20, Beta57, K&K Golden Trinity, Vektor, and probably others that I don't remember. My opinion is that this one is better than any of those the others I have tried, in sound quality and feedback-resistance. It is made in China, but it is designed in France and the build quality and design are very professional. It has a very sturdy and well designed shock mount, goose neck, and mounting system. I'm very impressed.
I just got it today, so I haven't had time to make any audio samples yet, but I will try to soon.

I've been eyeing the bl-21 for quite a while, but haven't had the cash to been able to gamble money on an unknown and take a loss. I'll be looking forward to more real world opinions.

I’d love to hear one, if you have the time. It looks very similar to the AMT SB25 which sounds great but has, like any condenser has m limitations. Much like you having used the DPA 4099B, Remic Green, Remic Red, Ovid TBone, Ischell, Audio Technica 35 and AMT I have my preferences, but I’m always interested in something with outstandind off axis rejection which DPA has really done well.

I found an "as new open box" BL21 on eBay that was cheap enough to take a gamble. I just completed initial testing and here's my preliminary report:
WOW! THIS IS THE WORST MIC I HAVE EVER USED. Not just the worst bass mic, I mean any mic. It distorts so horribly, especially on low notes, that it HAS to be defective.
I tried various positions on the bass: close and farther away, tried both a PA mixer and recording interface, tried raising and lowing gain on the mixer and interface, tried the low cut switch on the mic itself...all the same result: harsh distortion like the mic itself is overdriving that makes it unusable. The advertised spec is it can handle SPL of 140db. I know my bass isn't that loud (if it was, I wouldn't need to mic it).
Unless someone has an "AHA!" solution I haven't thought of, I'll be returning it.

I´m sure it IS defective. I tried the Prodipe Lanen, and it is really ok. Pro: good mounting system (but can´t compete with DPA, no surprise), gain before feedback comparable to DPA 4099. Con: medium to low resolution compared to DPA, some details get a bit lost. Frequency response not flat, some low midrange stuff can cause feedback/unwanted reflections with higher gain, again no suprise. For the money quite ok, no more no less.
Thanks for the confirmation that my experience is not normal. I thought it had to be a bad unit. I’ll just return it.
