I have good rhythm but I think that’s just a requirement.

Not especially technical.

Not especially great at theory.

A lot of my bass lines are pretty similar.

Decent at getting tone dialed into a mix.

I’m organized and I prepare.

I’m reliable and I communicate well.

I can learn almost anything by ear, and come up with complex basslines using most advanced techniques. My turnaround time for a complex bassline is usually about 24hrs for a client, and i don't actually need that much time usually.

I think I have my own voice as a bassist. I’m happy with that.

Something I don't understand is a lot of people and musicians I play with would say things like I'm the best bassist in town. But I know in myself that there are things that I still want to improve, particularly when I recently started studying jazz, and I think I'm more focused on these things. Funk and rock are doable for me, but jazz made me feel like a beginner again and cancels all those compliments.

I think I just have a genuine love for music and performance. Listening to music (especially live music) gives me dopamine rush, learning new stuff engulfs me in my own world, performing gives me an out-of-body experience and makes me wild and energetic, something my introverted self won't normally be comfortable with. Maybe what people think is special about my bass playing everything stems from this.

I sing, which seems to overshadow my profoundly average playing. Also, my gear usually works and I bring backups for when it doesn't. I don't drink or do drugs but I'll bet some of the people I work with wish I did!

I guess I have a decent ear for arrangement. Every original band I'm in I'm usually the one fitting all the parts together or trimming the fat.

My playing is average but can get weird at times, due to being self taught, I don't always "follow the rules" with my note and rhythmic choices. So I guess I'm kind of creative in that regard, to put it nicely.

I like to think I'm a good hang. I'm always the one cracking jokes and trying to make things relaxed for everyone. But I'm also the first to point out if I think something isn't working or sounding good.
