What actor played a role so iconicly that it's unimaginable anyone else could replace them?

Whenever Peter Lorre had a creepy, sniveling weasel type role, that could never be duplicated. But in a modern context, if there was a remake of any of those films he was in, maybe Steve Buscemi could take it on, but the film overall wouldn't be the same. Plus…who could do better than Bogart?

...except that after Jim Henson died, Steve Whitmire continued to play Kermit the Frog. For years!
Speaking of which: Noomi Rapace playing the septuplets in What Happened To Monday
I don't doubt someone else could have maybe done those roles in a way that was equally iconic...but the thing that most impressed me about Rapace's performance was the fabulous job she did of imbuing these identical septuplets with distinctly different and identifiable personalities...even when they're disguised as one another (!!!)
Weren't there 9 Lassie dogs? And a 10th in Lassie Come Home, the only female of the bunch.

Yeah true. Better watch out, where the one and only Skippy's concerned, though. Unlike Lassie, Skip's likely to box you in the ears, if you get out of line. Best not to intrude.

One of my favorite movies...
Is this Fargo? You know, if it is, I've yet to watch it. Need to do something about that. . .
Another favorite of mine. It didn't age terribly well, but what movie from that era did, socially?
Yul Brynner was terribly gifted. Kerr was a looker
He's one of the best doing it right now. I feel this is my favorite among many of his works. Being a father of a profoundly autistic man, his portrayal was enough to bring me to tears. Most just don't put the effort in to get mannerisms or tendencies when playing a mentally challenged person.
A wonderful movie that seems to fly under the radar. These two are stellar in their roles.
