They are there to keep little children safe from putting their little fingers on the pickups and seriously injuring themselves.

Basses should come with warnings.

It depends. Are they pre- or post-CBS covers? The covers that were made after CBS took over Fender are junk, but the pre-CBS ones have a smooth transparent sound with great sustain.
