What are pickup covers for?

Is a pickup cover for a 35" scale bass more difficult to use than a pickup cover for a 34" scale bass?

Rick B.

You can get those, you know. But they are special order from the Custom Shop. They go for something like $1195.00, and they are made by an award winning and much hailed Pickup Cover Smith. I got some on my CS, gold ones, but I still use them for ash trays. Only at high class cocktail partys tho'....:smug:

One thing I've found, IME, is that road-worn pickup covers are more vintage sounding than shiny ones. Anybody else find this to be true?

I go more for the Closet Classics, yo know, nice parina and pitted finish. The Road Word with all those dents just don't do it for me. I had one set with a humongous dent right on the top corner and it made my E string rattle and buzz. Nearly snapped the neck trying to adjust it out.:crying:
