What are the advantages to using speakon versus typical speaker cable?

Just curious what advantages there are to using a speaking cable between your amp and cab versus a traditional speaker cable.

because every amp and cab call it the standard these days and using it means you don't have to hassle with adapters

Just about any speaker cable, new or used, can be fitted with Speakon adaptors. !3 g is the largest that I can fit comfortably. Also, when tightening the terminal clamps, use a Pozi tip screwdriver.

Here's a trick I learned here years ago: If you have a questionable / compromised speaker cable, don't toss it. Cut the connectors and 8" of the cable off each end and replace with new connectors (Speakon, banana, phono). 9 times out of 10, you'll be back in business.

Mb450 with 4-10&1-15 head & cabs have combo 1/4- twistlock jacks. Killer rig for classic rock! No tube Hassel's lol

That’s low current stuff. You should see the 30 odd KV breakers in the power stations I used to work on.

To be fair I didn’t have to touch them but they were huge!
