I have a list of basses that I would like to own, that are generally all distinctly different from one another. One of those basses is a Wal bass. A genuine Wal bass isn't totally unobtainium, but it's pretty high up there. With basses like that, I simply try to build a clone myself. That of course has the advantage of being able to customise all the things that I might not like so much about an actual Wal. But one of the main things that I definitely would like to get right, are the pickups and electronics.
So now finally coming to my question, how would I go about copying that? I'm partially looking for specifics on how these electronics work, but also if there's a relatively affordable way to recreate them in a custom instrument. I guess part of that question also is what kind of pickups would be close and affordable. Though basic humbuckers would probably be just fine. I don't think the Wal pickups are a considerably different construction, compared to normal humbuckers. Though if they are, feel free to enlighten me!
