I want a 6-string. Not that I know how to play one. I just want one. I'm not a slap player so I'm never gonna do that. I just think it would be cool to add to my collection and maybe open up some other possibilities for me. My budget is not huge so, I'm looking for something on the more affordable side, thus I'm torn between a used ESP LTD B206SM or a used Ibanez GSR206. My issue here is that I don't have long fingers so a wide fretboard will be a problem. I've always liked the thin necks on the Ibanez SR models. But I also don't like any of the current GSR206 finishes, so that's a thing. That natural walnut is fugly IMO and black is......well......black. The B206SM is beautiful if you find the right graining, but I know zero about those necks compared to the SRs.

Along with that, I'd actually like to have an Ibanez GSRM20 just to dink around with and maybe let me grandkids play around with too. And I'd actually like to find another GSR200 or an SR series because I've owned several over the years (decades) and kind of regret letting them go. Always the most comfortable necks to me, and what I actually used back in the day in the studio because of that. They aren't awesome, or flashy, but they are workhorses!

And maybe a 4x10 cabinet to go with my Rumble 150, but that's at the bottom of the list for sure. ;) I don't gig, so bigger amps and stacks aren't really a thing in my life. But who doesn't want a stack for when the friends come over? :laugh:

My GAS is odd, for sure. None of it really makes sense, or is practical. But hey, it is a syndrome, right? :roflmao:

I am also suffering from 6 string GAS. I currently have one but I am wanting something a bit nicer (with easier access to the upper frets).

The B206SM is a very nice bass, but it is also heavy. I have the B205SM and I really feel the weight after a while. I also really liked the Cort Artisan 6 string (more than the Ltd).

I would really like to try the Ibanez BTB series as I love the looks but there is nowhere here to try one out.

Hmm....interesting input there. I've been poking around for info on the B206SM and no one really chimed in. So hearing that they are heavy helps a bit. Appreciate that comment!

Yeah, those both look awesome but I think a bit outside my budget. As I've never even held a 6 before I really wanna stay cheap here (within reason) and I can find the B206SM and the GSR206 both locally (used) for less than $300 and less than $200 (respectively). I almost pounced on a B206SM here locally that is listed for $270, but I'm really waiting on the right moment in the budget. I'll regret not jumping on it I'm sure, but it hasn't sold yet either. So who knows. I still need to come to a real conclusion on which one I want first I guess. Maybe the weight is the deciding factor.

I went through a period where I wanted one severely for a couple of years (my mother's maiden name is Sadowsky). Then this summer I went to NYC and played a couple, and quickly decided they are not for me. Amazing quality basses, but my hands don't like em...

Yeah, those both look awesome but I think a bit outside my budget. I would most definitely drop $270 on the B206SM, it is more than worth that amount of cash. Here it costs around $700, admittedly new, which is why I didn't pick one up already. It would certainly be a good bass to give 6 strings a whirl and see if you like it. I bought a Harley Benton for the same reason (which is actually a decent bass, just with awkward access to the higher frets) and that cost me nearly $200.

How does the neck feel? Is it slim like an Ibanez, or more fat like a Fender? That's the part I'm most scared of. I tend to do significantly worse on the fatter neck profiles like a Fender.

Ibanez SRH505 (Dragon Eye Burst but will settle for the other color if need be...)
Schecter Apocalypse C-5

A 300-500+ watt amp, preferable at least tube front end, probably Class D back end. I am in need of something this powerful to drive my full stack, but in want of a need to use the stack (no current band, no current project).

At the moment nothing specific (thankfully). Granted if I didn't have a few expenses coming up I'd probably restring my Bass VI and buy one of the Squier 70's Jazz Basses.

My the thing I have to actively talk myself out of is responding to craigslist and reddit ads about bands that need bass players here....

I am going by memory here but I don't remember feeling any difference between the 6 and my 5. I haven't had the opportunity to try an Ibanez 6er (or even a 5er) so I can only compare to 4 strings. It is definitely thicker (front to back) than an Ibanez, I would say that there isn't much difference in thickness between the Ltd and a Fender Jazz neck, but to me it feels slimmer due to the width (more flat area in the center of the back of the neck).

GAS - the final frontier! :)

I'm still looking for another 2.7-ohm-capable amp, so I can move from a 'two 1-12 stack' to a 'three 1-12 stack'. Hoping for the arrival of the rumored upcoming Hartke700! I actually have a Carvin BX500 that can do 2.7 ohms no problem, but that's been relegated to my backup head as I discovered that I like the 'fat-vintage-fender-tones' of my recently-acquired Hartke TX just a little better.

And basses - will it ever end? I have a new $4k custom job being built right now, and I will need to sell ten or twelve very nice basses next month to 'responsibly' fund its acquisition. The scary part is that I also have my eye on another $5k custom job after that! ( thankfully there is a ten-month production backlog on those... )
