Heard on the radio this morning:

DJ: "We got a prize for caller number 9 who has the punchline of this joke:

10 years ago, Mother Teresa passed away and went to
Heaven, and when she got there she noticed that Princess
Di's halo was twice the size of hers. She got a bit miffed and
asked St Peter 'How come since I dedicated my whole life to
helping the poor in Calcutta, my halo isn't as least as big
as that celebrity's halo?'

St. Peter replied, '________________________'.

Contestant: 'That's not a halo, that's a steering wheel!' "

Ta-boom.

Hey, guy's got a shot for tix to the Patriots vs. Chargers game.

Vergil's Aeneid, translated by a former Professor of my university, Professor David West. I actually met him at a guest lecture he did on the Aeneid.....he is a fantastic speaker!

It's called "Motherless Brooklyn," and it's about a petty thug with Tourette's trying to figure out who killed his boss/mentor.

Seeing the world through the eyes of the main character with Tourette's is fascinating. He has many of the same tics, etc. that my autistic daughter presents. It's also a mystery book, and the intertwining of the story with the main character's daily struggle is fascinating.

The author seems to have some real insight into the relatively rare condition.

the power and the glory.

I got a job lot of graham greene novels from a deceased great-aunt. some of them are ok, most are about alcoholic ex-pats with religious issues. This one is particularly dreary. I assume it was so he could have something to talk to aldous huxley about.

The Mighty Music Box, by Thomas A. DeLong, about the history of American radio entertainment.

Understanding Causality, by Jean Piaget.

Joey Collects, by "Joey" and Dave Fisher. Sleazy autobiography of a hitman.

Just finished Bob Dylan's Chronicles, vol. 1.

The Missing Link (The wisdom of the Bones I think it is in English) by Walker and Shipman, about the search for human fossils; Austrolapithecae, Homo Erectus, etc. Both their own findings as the history of the field are covered.

When I picked it up for free in the library I expected it to be extremely boring (maybe because most of the books I'm reading atm are rather dry linguistic papers, specialised scientific literature etc) but in fact it's extremely well written and very interesting (to me).

Other things; The Symbolic Species by Deacon, Grooming, Gossip and the Evolution of Language by Dunbar, Iconicity in Syntax by Haiman (ed), Lingua ex Machina by Bickerton & Calvin, Approaches to Language Evolution by Givón et al (I think) and an introduction to Antropological Linguistics.

First, second and fourth book could be interesting for a layman, the others...well :hmm:

Just finished "Blood and Thunder" - Hampton Sides about US weatern expansion
now rereading "Incident at Exeter" - John Fuller, a 60s UFO book
next up either "Roomful of Mirrors" - Chas Cross or "Whitewash I & II " - Harold Weisburg
