I've known for a while that I need to read Cormac McCarthy, and am now halfway into Blood Meridian. This is the terrible anti-Odyssey of America.

His 1996 IMAX expedition was on the Everest at the same side and time as the expeditions in which Krakauer participated that ended so dramatically (Into Thin Air, see above).

Plus, I also found the IMAX movie on DVD, so it all kinda fits together.

edit; Into thin air is probably one of the best, and also one of the most sobering, books I've read on mountaineering so far...

Why do people feel the need to post scans of cover pages in a thread like this? The book's going to be the same whatever edition you happen to have (OK, there are exceptions). Maybe it's just to make things look a little livelier and more colorful? Or is it a case of "no pic, no book"?

Because people like seeing book covers? If you wander into a store, you might recognize something you've seen in this thread and buy it from remembering the cover and people talking about it.

Or they know it bothers you, and are doing it just to spite you.

So far, they are my favourite books that I have ever laid my eyes upon. Especially Anthem. Greatest story ever, IMO.

Excellent sci-fi.
