What are your other obsessions?

My other big obsession is motorcycles. My dad always had a bike when I was growing up, so I got my license as soon as I was old enough. I had a nice Norcal style sportster I built, but an old lady in a Buick killed it. Now I'm riding a triumph speedmaster. I'm not sure I'd call them "obsessions", but my wife does.

Mountain biking, gravel biking, trail running, endurance racing (cycle/running), western big game hunting (I do live in New Mexico...), traditional archery, firearms. To some extent, bikepacking and backpacking (definitely less obsession and more just enjoyable hobby). I'm getting more into rucking as another form of strength training for backcountry big game hunts and endurance racing.

Let's just say scheduling life is hard.

1658 days ago I asked the same question. I though it might be fun to ask it it again since 1) there's lots of new folks here and 2) the old-timers might have new obsessions.

As for me, I still love baseball (go Braves).

I'll never stop being interested in astronomy; I did a public-outreach "sidewalk astronomy" session just this weekend.

I still like photography but its not quite the obsession it was. I haven't used the B&W darkroom in a few years; maybe its time to take it down.

How about you?

Hi-fi.

I modify some Naim Audio amps and get the best sound someone can imagine.

I also participated to the design of some hi-fi speakers over the years with one of my friends that built 212 prototypes and finally stopped and now makes 3 different models that sound awesome.

And now, I put together parts to build basses !
What's in a naim, anyway. Sounds like a great hobby. :)

I have phases, but I parlayed a life of music into a love of repairing and building, from instruments to pedals to gear to amps to hacks, which bled over into general woodworking, furniture building, and DIY otherwise.

One day I had to replace a bad pot on a bass.. After some googling and diagrams, etc., I decided I wanted to be able to read schematics to try out some of the mods I came across. To years and years of spending every free moment drawing and designing circuits. Somewhere along the way, I picked up some of the woodworking side, not sure if it was a repair or what… I have now built a few instruments, dozens of pedals, And countless other accessories, from preamps to whatever else. I’ve also built what is approaching the majority of the furniture in my house, as well as several remodeling projects.

despite over two decades in music, I didn’t feel like I really understood what creativity meant to me until I started this kind of pursuit, as well as doing some trade jobs along the way.

I'm kind of a little bit of a Star Wars geek...(that's me with my son...who is also a bass player)
