Honestly we may never know the reasoning for this video. But, in the bigger picture look at how quickly this thread blew up here. Much less the rest of the internet. And while that tone is something from a horror movie most people watch these videos through a phone speaker or cheap headphones anyway. Maybe they just said lets make it so bad it gets attention? And they have certainly gotten attention with 1.6 million views. Just my 2 cents.

I didn't recognize "Maggot Brain" at all. To me, it sounds nothing like that song.

That said, I liked what Flea did but, IMHO, the final result would be much, much better if Flea played that distorced bass with a wah wah pedal (A la Cliff Burton).

You're right. The late and great Cliff was way better than Flea in this game. However, with a wah wah pedal, Flea's playing would be way more pleasant to my ears.

I like Flee's work in the Die Antwoord video Ugly Boy and the solo in True Men Don't Kill Coyotes is one for the ages. In the posted video he did show some nice left hand position.

Higher Ground - he totally murdered that song, ripped the groove right out of it just so everyone could admire how talented he is. My thoughts?
He needs to work on fretting his notes better. The clickety tone is not to my taste. It looks like it may have been pretty dang fun to make that vid/ play like that out there. I got no problems with it overall.
