In short, since he's so much better than I am, why is he playing worse than I do?

I honestly don't understand your point. It's not like the musical content of what he is playing is beyond a relative novices understanding. It's really bad, and since we know how good he is, we're wondering what the heck. Total reasonable. In short, since he's so much better than I am, why is he playing worse than I do? And then trying so hard to sell it? It is kind of weird.

My point is simple. The majority of people here including myself are puzzled by Flea's performance in this video. We are not taking into account what goes into these videos. Flea's availability, The short amount of time they had to shoot it in the location they were in. The marketing teams and executives making decisions....etc. It's a commercial!. We all know Flea is good, we know the product is good. So let's see the way a corporation has compromised your talent to sell an item, I bet it wouldn't be to your liking either

for example, we used to call that a fuzz tone or a fuzz box. It was a little square metal box with phone plug in's and outs to plug your guitar and amp into, a 9 volt battery, a transistor of some kind or other (probably a 2N2222), a fuzz control knob and some kind of switch to turn it on and off. Tons of songs were recorded with them including, "I Can't Get No Satisfaction", by the Rolling Stones, of course. That one sounded pretty good. It wasn't too harsh. Kind of a mellow fuzz tone.

You would think so, but you never know, sometimes it all doesn't line up the way they want and you get a dud. It happens

I have been working in corporate film and Television for over 20 years and ask the same question every day!

I've seen this before and it's actually why I don't like his playing. I think slap is great as a dynamic but he takes it to the extreme. I'm not a fan of constant slapping, such as what he does in the middle of this song and have never heard a RHCP song that I like. We all have different tastes. That's what makes music great.
