What Band's Bass Player Does Your Favorite Solo.

I'm gonna have to say it's Flea... but don't ask me to pick a favorite.

I like his solos on coffee shop (one hot minute), especially the outro solo, every time I hear it reminds me of being 18 and learning to play it.

I have several I can think of, but most of Kim Stone's solos when he played with the Rippingtons were nicely done and very tasteful. Plus he looked like he was having a blast. Here is one of them.

Bassically,. Geezer Butler bass solo on their debut album. When I originally heard it, as a youth, is when I first took notice of the bass.

on rock / popular stuff, what always got me as a teenager was flea on aeroplane.

it's not that great, at all. BUT, it works absolutely beautifully in style, taste, context, and that's a huge lesson in why flea is a millionaire and guys like (that fusion cat who can seriously play) are barely making a living.

You didn't catch your typo. Boz. I loved him in King Crimsom too. He really should be in top Bass Player Lists. His tone and playing was so underrated. Wasn't super fast, but always played the perfect lines for Bad Company songs. Kinda like Ringo did on drums.

I have to say that is a freakish amount of overlap on what I would have posted. You and I have very similar taste.

Patitucci - yes, that is an outstanding solo on a great tune that Erskine really fuels with an excellent feel. I've been listening to Patitucci since the 80s and I'll never stop learning from what I hear. That solo has a little tag in it, around the third or fourth chorus - a repeating pattern - he does that a lot, and it's a thing of his that I've tried to use. Have you heard his solo on "Chocolate Souffle" from the Oz Noy "Booga Looga Loo" record? Slower tune but similar appeal.

Wooten - damn right. What a sit-in that was. I'll admit to more than a few times fantasizing that was me.

Juan Nelson - just want to make sure people look for this one on the 2009 Austin City Limits live recording. He gets a much longer solo and does some great stuff with it.

Couple more:

Gary Willis - on "Armageddon Blues" from his "Bent" bandleader record and also on "Canine" on the "Face First" Tribal Tech record. Similar solos, bot inspiring.

Kai Eckhardt - "Babaluwye" from the "Fiafiaga" record. It's a bass feature short song rather than a bass solo within a tune, but it's loads of fun.

Phil Kennemore of Y&T on "Lipstick and Leather".

Agree. So many bass solos are wankfests/boring. This fits the song perfectly, every note of it.

I am not a soloist. However, when my band performed the entire "Eat a Peach" album, by The Allman Bros., I knew the Mountain Jam bass solo had to be addressed.
I also know that since I am not Berry Oakley, I would not be able to reproduce his entire bass solo.
I tried to incorporate some of his riffs as best as I could, and is nowhere near as long as his solo on the album.
