What bass and strings does Tal Wilkenfeld use?

Looks like they are roundwounds, correct? I am looking for maybe nickel flats or ground roundwounds for my new Squier fretted jazz. I like the brightness of rounds (sort of) but hate the feel. I usually play nickel flats on my fretless bass's. Fretted bass is new to me. I am not a rocker. Jazz, jazz fusion, funk.

Suggestions?

If you're looking for flats for a Jazz, have a look at GHS Precision Wound. I just strung my Jazz with them, and so far, i'm fairly impressed. Still fairly bright due to the steel winding, and pretty sleek and flexible. Tone's pretty good, too.

A number of years ago, Roger Sadowsky said she used Sadowsky Black Label Nickels but this more current picture shows her with non-silked strings so these strings are not Sadowsky.

Sorry I was mistaken - Roger did say "Black Label Nickels 40-100", not "Blue Label" as I mentioned above. And it was in 2010, so things may have changed since then.

So I bought some GHS Precision Wound flats today. Third string set in two weeks. So far I just cannot find the sound and balance that I want. Last try was GHS Pressure Wound. Too bassy, too bright, too zingy (on my fingers). Good tone though and very loud.

Zip your pants up men. Those pics were her playing when she was probably 19 years old. What an amazing artist! Some great YouTube videos of her playing with rock and jazz icons.

If Pressurewounds were too bright and zingy, you definitely don't want the strings that Tal uses...since they are twice as bright and zingy.

And thanks for making me feel like a creepy old dude, she was 3 years old when I bought my first bass :)

Yeah, she plays a far different venue than I do. Big stage, big guitars and big drums. When doing that at hi volume levels the requirements are totally different. I like listening to her but my personal bag is subtlety and nuances. I like harmonics and expression at low volume levels. Can't seem so far to get it from a fretted bass, but I am creeping up on it. I am a total newbie to fretted bass. I have heard amazing things done with the instrument however.

Welcome to the "creepy old dude club" Mr. Bongo. At least you have spirit left in you! Gawd, she was not even born yet (not even close) when I played my alto sax in High School jazz band. Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana. :-)
