Hells yea I'm using tabs
I've been learning to play AND read for the past 10 months ... & I use the tabs to break up the monotony of the Mary Had a Little Lamb learning tracks that come with most instruction books. It's helped my fingering tremendously too.
Rush - Animate. Pretty simple bassline right? What's giving me trouble is the one-finger flamenco style Geddy uses...been practicing but haven't been able to get it down. I can play it normal though (mostly)

Why would anyone be ashamed using Tabs? They are just one of many tools available to learn songs by.

Although I have heard of guys not liking other members of their bands relying solely on tabs, claiming that they don't use their ears enough. I think that's phooey.
I just think sometimes, especially on this forum, there seems to be a underlying thought that somehow you are not a "real" musician unless you can do everything by ear. I just think that line of thinking is highly condescending as not everyone is gifted with the same talents but by taking different avenues to get there, they all can be successful to a degree.

ive actually heard local musicians say the same thing.
i agree with you, some peoples musical ability lies in their ability to memorize stuff. its not just raw, unadulterated musical talent. thats how i am, i just repeat things i see or hear until i can play em like i wrote em. i dont know any other way.
