What bass is Mike Huckabee playing?

as if it was really a massive mystery as to what basses he was holding..

+1. I am curious how well he can play. Anyone have an opinion or link? One thing I do notice in those pix is there doesn't seem to be any consistency in how high he straps them on. The Tobias is slung low while the others are slung higher.

There are some YouTube videos of him playing but the recordings are typically on someone's camcorder.

but if you notice the B string was removed so it
was really a 4 string... i froze the image on my Tivo,
and had to look at it for a bit, but it was definately
5 pegs & 4 strings (with a big space where the B is).

so yea, my guess is most of the basses, esp this one,
was a loaner from the bands bassist.

Actually, Huckabee is a pretty dedicated bass player and has played with a number of classic rock and country performers in the past, most notably, his fave band, Grand Funk Railroad. (Mark Farner is also a Christian rock artist). Although he doesn't see eye to eye with Huckabee politically, even Tom Scholtz admits that he was impressed that Huckabee nailed the bass part for Boston's, "More Than A Feeling", which Huckabee has been playing at his rallies.

That seems like a silly thing for Scholz to say. No one's going to imply that the band is endorsing Huckabee...because everyone knows that there is no band anymore! They haven't been active for years, and the singer died last year.

John McCain complied with John Cougar Mellencamp's wishes, hopefully Huckabee will do the same.

I don't know, I didn't find Huck's fretting technique to be great, but it certainly seemed to get the job done.

You know, the whole fracas around some of these candidates and the songs they're being asked not to use reminds me of the early days of Clinton's bid for the presidency (I'm obviously referring to Clinton, Mk I, here), when his campaign people wanted to use Leonard Cohen's 'Democracy' for the refrain 'Democracy is coming to the USA...'

Leonard politely refused. Now, that was for a canned recording that they would have used for their theme song, I wonder what the rules are for playing a song live?

Oh, and Mikeeltoro, I'd say to watch how political you get: the other thread on this was closed because apparently politics are a no-no at TB.

Well now, Nixon did play piano.

Bill Clinton, is a real nice guy.
When I met him and he found out I was a musician,
he wanted me to tell him all about it.
After our talk and photo opt.,
he began boarding the stairs of Air Force One,
I then shouted up from the bottom of the steps.
He turned around and started laughing when
I said, " Mr President, lets get together and
Jam sometime " as I gave him the thumbs up.
That was in July of 2000.
I later received the White House photo and
a short note thanking me for my CD which I gave to
his staff aide. Secret Service would not let me hand
it directly to him.
He did have a nice collection of CD's on board Air Force One,
which I noticed earlier.
I never did hear about the Jam session though..............
