I think she played a Fender Jaguar later on... could it be a Jag w/out a pick guard or something?

No, it couldn't.
I've seen that bass back in the 80s(I think it was), Kathy's from Austin, and it's a custom job, can't remember the maker.
That should be stickied as textbook perfect 80's dork dancing, a neccesary ingredient for a proper retro band. Agreed on the bass being a custom, definitely NOT a Jag.
I think a Red Thunderbird may be correct. The Gogos are so amazing!! I was always into Jane Weidlin for some reason. Dig her sparkly Gretsch.

Hard to tell what Kathy is playing (some sort of P Bass?) here too because of the clip quality but the bass is right up front in the mix. And I LOVE Jane's guitar sound on "Our Lips are Sealed". Pretty badass performance all around.

You didn't, but I doubt anyone would have caught it.
To me the(genuine Gibson)T-Bird's headstock shape is very distinctive & essential to the whole picture. Not neccesarily a good design, as broken T-Bird headstocks are as common as *which _______ for metal* TB threads, but so phallic & intimidating.

I hesitate to say it, but would Mike Lull have done something like that? I'm not all that familiar with Lulls, except that he does excellent versions of T-birds.
I can't get a good enough look at the headstock, but I only know so many custom manufacturers that do Gibson style basses, and the Go-Go's could certainly have afforded whatever they wanted at that point for axes.

That was the first thing I noticed too, Fender esque headstock Gibson esque body...custom Fenderbird anyone?
Actually I recall being very curious about that bass back in the 80s. At the time I only knew of 3 basses, Fender J, Fender P and Ricks. So I pled ingnorance and moved on. Having a look at it now, clearly its a custom job. A touch of P Bass with the figure of a T bird. Doubt you'll find many cousins of it around.
And for what its worth, Jane Wiedlin was my fav (super cute) but Kathy was the coolest.
