What bass should I buy next?

I have several Precisions, and others, but I think I want something pretty different. So far I'm considering Danelectro, Rickenbacker, Kawai, and Warwick. We play a lot of blues, and other things, but I think I want to step outside the norm a little bit.

Thoughts?

Rick is outside the norm according to me but not just a little bit, specially with midrangy round wound strings. Fits more with progressive rock though.

Get yourself a G&L SB2. It is a great bass to play and the sound is very articulate. I've had multiple complements on the tone at blues jams. I use DR Pure Blues on mine.

Consider a T Bird, it still works for the music you play.

But if you are thinking anything different, play it before you buy it. If it isn't comfortable to play, you wasted your money.

Anything literary works in blues imo and that's if we are talking about Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Albert King, Junior Kimbrough etc.

Not for everyone, but I would like to get my hands on a Spector Dimension multiscale 5 string. Warwick has an amazing growl that absolutely rips through the mix...my only complaint with mine is the "tighter than I like" string spacing at the bridge and the baseball bat-like neck profile. Some love it though!

sounds like you have a nice budget,
Musicman or anything active double humbucker, a G&L. The musicman may not have the 'blues' sound you want. Unless you push a lot of lows

Epiphone, they’re different, affordable, and traditional. The Embassy is their best all-rounder.

Tribute L2K? Very flexible, tons of range. Splurge for a Fullerton used if you can get your hands on one. It’s what I bring to a gig if I’m in the mood to tweek knobs.

Stingray always sounds good in blues. I’d probably go for an Ibanez though. Maybe an ehb.

Kawai? That's a rather surprising choice in the company of all those other classics. Also, Kawai made lots of totally different types of basses so it's impossible to know what kind of bass you are referring too. Some of them are really cool though!!!

Personally I would go for some kind of short scale hollowbody. Maybe a Höfner (with Pyramid Golds). That would give you something COMPLETELY different. Maybe not the best choice for blues though... but who knows?

There are lots of other cool short scale hollowbodies too of course. Guild Starfire? Jack Casady? Hagström Viking? Or maybe a used Gretsch (their currently manufactured hollowbodies are INSANELY expensive... but veeeery cool!!!).

Absolutely this. If you don't have some kind of cool shorty hollowbody w/flats that can be a great addition to any bass quiver. I've used my Jerry Jones Longhorn in tons of roots music, blues, country---a nice change from a FSO. People always love it too. And for recording it's a great option to have on hand.

An hollow body makes sense and most of the blues bassists I know have one on top of their Fender-like p or j.
