What Bass would Jaco be playing?

God rest his soul, Jaco was a legend. But if he lived and played today, what bass would be his instrument? Would he stay with the modded fretless J or would he go high end with an Alembic or even completely custom made by Unobtanium? Maybe he would grab a short scale and let it rip. Here you go TBers…. What say you?

A 6, like his son.

People today are FAR too concerned about things like this. People like Jaco and Paul M. bought a bass, then they played it all da every day.

Since he didn't usually play music that was a big moneymaker (especially today), he'd probably play what ever paid him the most (think Jeff Berlin), and would still sound amazing.

a few years before he died, a student of his brought him a 6 string fodera to try.

he noodled for a moment, tossed the bass aside and said something too the effect of "I'm too old for this s___"

so nah. he would've stuck to an old fender i'm sure. the CS would make one for him if they had the chance.

Everything mentioned and a lot more was available at the time of his death, so he would likely play a fretless Jazz as he chose while he was still alive.
