Had a good week in beer. Wife and I went to Seattle area for vacation and there is quite a good selection of local/regional stuff. I tried as many as I could! My wife, who is not much of a beer drinker, even got in on the fun. I'll try to give a condensed version of my beer experiences, quantified by stars. Thank you, Washington state!

Manny's Pale Ale: On tap. Refreshing, had with a fat medium-rare ribeye from Ruth's Chris. ****

LaConner Brewing Porter: had at the brewery. Odd buttery diacetyl thing going on. ***

Icicle Brewing Porter: had at the brewery. smooth, mild, roasty. ***

Flyer's Pacemaker Porter: good stuff. ****

Mack & Jack's African Amber: Had several of these in Union, WA. Pretty good, refreshing. ***

Diamond Knot IPA: bomber. Okay, seemed true to the style. ***

I had a Thomas Hardy from about the same year. No carbonation to speak of, but holy hell it was amazing. Best smelling beer of all time.

They're pretty similar brews fresh, so I'd imagine they're pretty similar aged. Agreed, had a great nose on it.

The only other beers I can think of that had that sort of nose are:

Alaskan Barleywine
Bell's Third Coast Old Ale
JW Lees Harvest Ale, any year

I love that raisin/prune/alcohol/sugar smell from time to time.

After spending 5 nights at the hospital, my first born baby and mom are now home and well. Finally have a chance to relax and found this last brew hidden in the back corner of the fridge. Just in time for the game. Perfect :)
