Windows 7 x64 for me. I had been toying with Chrome on my previous installation (Windows Vista x86) and decided on it by the time I upgraded, so I didn't even bother installing Firefox this time 'round. Previously, I did use Firefox exclusively on both Windows Vista and Windows 2000 (I'm the opposite from everybody... I actually skipped XP :smug:).

That video link I post shows Windows 7 installing on a Pentium 4, 2.6Ghz, with 512MB RAM and a 5200FX 128mb video card in under 9 minutes.

This shows that when the folks at Microsoft want to they can create an OS which doesn't require ever more powerful hardware to run.

I find this development to be both surprising and pleasing.

I'd expect that an OS' and a browser's performance are somewhat related.

For example: on an ASUS P4P800 deluxe (a high-end S478 MoBo), P4 Prescott @3.20GHz, 3GB RAM, GeForce 6200 w/256MB, 7,200 RPM HD (in short a decent desktop PC circa ~6 yrs. ago) Ubuntu Studio 9.10 runs quite well and so does Firefox 3.5.7 (the current version after a few automated updates) which comes with it. There's none of the slow Firefox performance I've seen reported in posts on TalkBass and on Basschat.

So I'd like to know which OS version is being used by those who claim that Firefox has slowed down in recent times.

Since Windows 7 (which can install in under 9 min. and boot on a nearly 8 yr. old 2.6GHz P4 Northwood sporting 1/2 the minimum RAM Vista requires) appears to be the best performing OS Microsoft has offered in a l-o-n-g time, it would seem that it's unlikely to be a contributer to Firefox's alleged slower performance.

So that leaves: which operating systems?

Although a bit of a dead thread, however I stumbled across it when searching the TB forums. I use Google Chrome most of the time. However IE10 is pretty slick and honestly although Chrome is "faster" and such, the main reason I use it is because extensions like AdBlock and AdBlock Plus work on them. I heard though AdBlock Plus is working on a full version for IE, Safari and Opera that works just like on Firefox and Chrome. If that is indeed true when that is released I could see myself going back to using IE full time.
