Because they can? What business is it of anyone's here? Maybe she got a good deal and thought it could possibly be a vintage guitar cab (as some others have posited here). Maybe she knows a bass player. Maybe she thought she could sell it. Maybe she thought it would make an excellent hipster coffee table but wanted to make sure she didn't have a rare cab first. Maybe it's still no one's business but her own.

I fail to see any connection between *why* she bought the cab and her request for help to identify it. I didn't need to know *why* she bought it in order to provide help in identifying the cab. She can buy whatever she wants for any reason she wants, just like the rest of us! ;)

Once you put it in the public domain, people get to ask. It happens in real life too, the land outside the internet. Some might venture to, gasp, ask many unintended things out in that crazy place.

Thank you all for your kind help. The fabric on the grill is black from wear and dirt. Its a light color with silver flecks on the back of the fabric where its clean. The cab is upright now. Sorry for the confusion my bad photo caused. I bought it to part out or to use as a decoration for my music room. As it turns out the speaker that remains is of very good quality. One is missing.The speaker is a 16 ohm JBL model 131 by James B Lansing sound of Los Angeles. I've been told the cabinet was made between 1967 and 1974. Another bidder at auction must have gotten the amp which probably would have been a tube amp. I know every one will think I'm crazy but I love it. Thank you all so very much for your kind help. You can Google the speaker and info comes up on it!! Thanks again to all who answered.
My budget for gear is limited and rarely can I afford vintage.

I'm sure its sounds stupid but I honestly didn't know if I could play another type of guitar other than a bass through it. That's pretty funny. I need an vintage amp now just for this cab. I was told many different things about what I bought as the seller really didn't know what it was.

I'm laughing out loud!! I bought it to part out if necessary to use if I could or literally use as a decoration if I had too. Yep it sounds crazy probably because I am!! People are making me laugh here!!

There is less of a chance it has the original speakers. Because the speaker(s) have been changed, nobody knows the impedance so you should be careful what you plug it into. i'm not sure what your intended use is for this cabinet, so it is impossible to give you good direction on it. Also - and not to be rude - it is 2018. There is absolutely NO excuse to post crappy pictures. Not just one - but multiples. Use your phone next time. If you did use your phone, please drain the water out of it.

Suffice to say - this cabinet is NOT likely to be a valuable old relic lost to time in a music store back room. The market is too well researched and played for such finds these days. I think you likely bought an old clunker to be honest. You'll have to pull the back and / or speakers to see what you have. If it has screws on the back of the cab, take them all out and take the back of the cab off. If no screws on the back of the cab, make a grille removal tool by bending a 90 degree hook about 1" long on a coat hangar that has been straightened. Slip the tool into the gap between the grille and the cabinet till it bottoms out. turn it 90 degrees so it grabs the grill, then pull straight outward. The grill will pop or loosen this way. Once the grill is off you can take the speakers out. Don't drop them. After you do one of the above, you can read the labels on the speakers and understand what you have from a musical instrument standpoint. it will also help to establish if you have a real Fender cab or not. It will also help prevent Mickey Mouse from blowing up an amp you choose to plug in and test with this mystery cab. Remember - if it is an old cab it has blown up at least one set of speakers in it's lifetime and has been owned by at least one ******* too. Bad combination sometimes...

Sorry for the bad photo. It was hard to photograph it but I tried again. I figured out the speaker when I got the nerve up to take the back off. It was a nice speaker left in it and will get help with it to avoid getting electrocuted. Your advice was well thought out and intelligent. Thank you!!!

sorry it was a bad photo. I tried a better photo and managed to figure the speaker out. It has original vintage hardware with serial numbers and says patent pending. Thanks for your sense of humor.

I was amazed at the quality of the speaker in the cab. They're $250 to $300 on eBay. I just like the darn thing because I'm demented. Hahaha!!
