What did you do with your first bass?

it was a sattelite jazz bass....had nylon flatwounds and action you could have built a city under. i chopped to bits and binned it when i got my first westone thunder 1a

Hondo P-Bass. Played it for 2-3 years before picking up a Squier Jazz, then decided to experiment with neck refinishing. I sanded all the finish off the neck and then refinished it with tung oil. It wasn't the greatest job ever, but the practice helped me do a better job on the next two basses I tackled. It was good enough though that the person I lent it to so they could try learning bass themselves decided to steal it.

My first real bass was a Charvel B3 neck through. I played it full time until 91-92. Around that time pointy headstocks were out of fashion so I started playing a sunburst Fender MIJ Precision my parents got me for Christmas a few years before. At the time I was big into Billy Sheehan so I went to the local music store and traded the bass in for a Dimarzio P pick up and the Dimarzio Model One humbucker.

I wish I still had that Fender. The neck was amazing.

My first bass was a Westone Thunder Jet... I pulled it apart when I bought my next bass & left it in the shed at my folks for nearly 10 years & forgot about it..... I stumbled accross it one day & got all sentimental & had a friend paint it at his panel shop & bought EMGs & rebuilt it... The result: a $20 bass with $500 worth of parts on it!!! Its still terrible to play & lives in my cupboard... Hell even my kid doesnt want it!!!

I played it today! Well, kinda...

My 'first' was an Epiphone Viola Bass that had a broken bridge when I bought it. Returned it for an Epiphone Thunderbird named ThunderCougarFalconBird.

This bass is obnoxiously heavy, has a booming dark, deep sound, and is incredibly uncomfortable to play standing up. But I love the damn thing. It's my first bass! Taught me my blink-182, my Toy Dolls, my The Killers. It's going to stay with my folks when I move out, but I'm never getting rid of ThunderCougarFalconBird!

It was a pearl pink 80s peavey foundation. Played great, but I couldn't get past the color. I resprayed it black, horribly. Then I did a lousy job of sanding down and spraying it clear. Sold it to a friend you did a better refinish job. I don't regret selling it bc it was the best thing that could have happened to the poor thing. I'd love to have a black one or an ash one (probably not the pink tho).

Didn't learn my lesson and did something similarly stupid with my hondoII longhorn 10 years later. I really shouldn't be trusted with sandpaper and varnish...

Mine was a Kima brand p-bass copy. Still have it and currently it is disassembled, but some day I am going to make some sort of wall art out of the parts! Put my creativity to use is another medium!

Drove nails into it. Stabbed it with knives and hacked it apart with screwdrivers and axes. Shot it a couple of times.

Mine was possessed by a demon so I sent it to the Vatican to be worked on by top exorcists. Turned out it only needed a trussrod adjustment. The Vatican set it up and put on a new set of strings. They added a Pope preamp.

My first Bass was a Silvertone I bought out of a Sears catalog...No Idea what ever happened to it (lost it I guess), but I still have my second Bass...a 1973 CAR Fender Jazz. I bought it new...

people would be horrified to hear what I did to mine.... Its a Peavey BXP milestone I think. was sunburst...

Thats until the sandpaper came alone, along with a chisel, some fire, white spirit, a butter knife (defret) and various other things. Needless to say, I am very slowly bringing it back to life... Love the thing

No idea why I did any of this... Was just a very destructive teen....

Sear Silvertone p-bass copy - bought new in '72 for $69. LAter painted it chocolate brown using some epoxy paint...unfortunately I had no concept of "dryers" being needed for the epoxy paint I had found in parents basement, so months later it was still tacky. In a debacle involving guns, alcohol and drugs it was used for 12 gauge target practice and then added to our bonfire. True story.

Sold it to some guy that wanted it for his girlfriend so she could play in his band to become more apart of his life. Was a wine red Squier Affinity Jazz bass with a black pickguard. I feel sad actually since it was my first (and crappy) bass but it was the only one thus far I poured my soul out on when playing it. So much so, the roundwounds cut my fresh fingers open and I bled on it without noticing for 2 minutes. Blood all over the strings and pickguard; definitely wasn't pretty.

I just traded my first bass, shipped it off last week. I had been holding on for sentimental reasons, but I honestly didn't like the thing very much and I'm trying to get rid of the unneeded clutter in my life.
