What did you do with your first bass?

it was blue, i decorated the white pickguard with lyrics from my first band's songs, and drew a fake humbucker on it. later on, i stripped the paint and painted it daphne blue. then the headstock broke and the E tuner came off, and i loaned it to my buddy's gf to learn bass. they broke up and now i can't get in touch with her to try and get it back. i miss that bass

My first was an old 70,s Harmony P bass. Sold all of my equiptment in 75 to buy engagement ring ,wedding ring .36 years later still miss the bass. Ex wife I dont miss at all.
I'm new to this forum, just joined yesterday. So to me this is kind of funny.
I had just got my "first ever bass" out of the closet and was thumpin' around on it when I ran into this thread.
Just last month I had cleaned it up, put new strings on it and made all necessary adjustments. It's a 1975 P-Bass that I purchased used, in like new condition, back in 1978. Now it doesn't look so new, but it still plays good and has a nice tone.
I won't ever sell this bass, too many memories. I have already told my son it's his when I'm gone.

Im about to defret it after owning it for 15+ years. What am I thinking? Oh well it is beat to s...its an ATK that has been stolen and lent out for 4 years
First three basses:
1. Gibson EBO knockoff. Set it down on the floor, and then like the high drunk idiot I used to be, stepped on it and snapped the neck. I gave it to a neighbor who I believe ended up trash-canning it.
2. Late 70s Fender Precision, chocolate brown body, maple fretboard. I think I sold it for a guitar. Perhaps my most bone-headed move with gear ever, seeing what they fetch today.
3. Electra Phoenix in pearl white with P Bass pickup array. I have no idea what happened to that thing, but I rocked it hard for three years straight, every weekend. It was my one and only, what a trooper. I recently found and purchased its twin on eBay. I may not get so lucky with the first two.

Still have mine as well ('76 4001). Just started playing it again a few days ago too!
Remember when we bought them? They were just "used" back then
. Still hard for me to think of it as a valuable, "vintage" instrument, but that's what they are.So...does that make us "vintage" too?

Oh well, whata ya gonna do?I did replace the pups in this one, so it's probably lost it's vintage value. I think I gave $250 for it, can't really remember for sure. Too many gigs since then!
All the worn spots and nicks and scratches makes it a "real roadworn" finish. I earned those the hard way!
If I did want to sell, I probably wouldn't get much more than that now.
Ibanez Soundgear, early '90s. Loaned it to my brother. Doubt I'll have it in my home anytime soon but it was a great starter instrument, and its still mine 
My first bass started a hideous shade of metallic aqua green with bright yellow markings and knobs. I stripped it and gave it a crappy spraypaint refinish. I started to refinish it again, but I only got the headstock done (checkerboard) before I ended up getting a bass as a christmas gift.
Right now it's sitting in pieces in my garage. I forgot it existed for about 2 years until I found the neck under a large pile of other projects. It's in the process of getting refinished (again). The body is made of plywood, but the neck is cherry.
I decided to keep it instead of trashing it, because it's a shortscale, and I don't come across very many shortscales I actually like. Because of the plywood body, I wanted to paint it a solid colour....but I came across some mozambique and tigerstripe maple veneer, and will soon be giving it a fancy new top and matching headstock.

Wish I still had my first bass. Around 1980 I used my summer job savings to buy a Rick and joined my first decent garrage band. A few months later a really good working band offered me a job as keyboardist. Traded my Rick for a Moog.
Mine is still my main bass three years later. It's a late 90's squier jazz that I got for $100 at a pawn shop.
Sold it to a friend, 30+ years ago. I think I paid $100 for it, sold it to him for $50... Just a cheap no-brand I had picked up at a pawn shop.
He gave it back to me about a year ago, after sitting unplayed for probably 25+ years. I cleaned it up as a memento. It's basically unplayble, not worth spending any money on. But I like having it back.
